For Immediate Release
Candidate Shaniqua “Shan” Rose:” Building Bridges to Close the
Gap For The People of District 5”
My name is Shaniqua “Shan” Rose and I am announcing that I will be running for Orlando District 5 Commissioner. I was born on the Caribbean Island of St. Lucia, and raised in Brooklyn, New York. My family relocated to Poinciana, Florida, where I graduated from Poinciana High School. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Supervision and Management from Polk State College, and now I hold a Masters Degree in Public Administration from American Public University
In 2013, I started working for the City of Orlando as an employee for six years. In the city I worked in the Economic Development Department, and the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA). My passion is to provide healing to communities in need – from poverty to mentoring, and I was recognized by channel 6 WKMG-TV for Getting Results, for coordinating over 10,000 vaccines.
I am an overcomer! The trauma of suddenly losing my husband to gun violence, losing my young son to health conditions, being homeless, a domestic violence victim, and so much more did NOT break me and I NEVER stopped helping others. Going through some really rough patches in my life allowed me to get the healing that I needed, and I have grown so much. Now I am the President of Change For The Community (a non-profit organization), Executive Director in Eatonville, and a mom to a beautiful son. Listening to the needs of others, working together, and getting things done is what I have learned and continue to do every day.
I have been recognized by many organizations in Orlando for my leadership skills such as President Joe Biden’s award, and so much more. I have distributed over 200,000 pounds of food to those in need, and employed over 100 people to clean up debris during Hurricane Ian. I am asking for your support, as the next Commissioner of District 5 on May 21st2024. My goal is unity in the community, and more collaboration while working together.
District 5 is one of the most significant communities in the City of Orlando, and in the next 45 days, I want to meet you, talk to you, get you involved, to vote. I do NOT have all the answers, but I am excited to improve District 5 where I am a homeowner and live. So if you care like I do, let’s work together. There are no easy answers in District 5, starting with Affordable Housing, education, Jobs, homelessness, drugs, and crime. All of these problems must be addressed, and Commissioner Regina Hill has some good programs and projects. Candidate Rose will continue to support City of Orlando Blueprint, Turner School of Construction, Church Street Renewal, Soccer Stadium, food drives, school supply events, and clothing donations events for the underserved.
Candidate Rose is proud to be of service to District 5, which includes Downtown Orlando, and communities of Parramore, Rock Lake, Lake Dorna, Lake Sunset, Princeton Silver Star, Malibu, Clear Lake, Ivey Lane, the Willows, the Mercy Drive Corridor, Timber Sounds, Lake Mann Estates, Demetrius Homes, Timberleaf, and Metro West.
