Oh, rats! Rat models now available through Mouse Biology Shared Resource
Researchers in the Mouse Biology Shared Resource (MBSR) recently produced their first genetically engineered rat. Although research often uses the genetically-altered mouse as a model to study human cancer, the rat has some advantages. The MBSR has applied CRISPR/Cas9 genome-editing technology to create a mutation by homology-directed repair in rats. The MBSR now offers both mouse and rat genome-editing to cancer center researchers. Congratulations on this achievement!

HuMurine contributes to annual research symposium
HuMurine Technologies
is a UC Davis industry partner in the Oak Park Building. HuMurine is a CRO (contract research organization) that provides specialized research services based on the "humanized immune system" mouse to pharmaceutical and biotech companies. HuMurine was awarded a NIH SBIR phase I grant in 2016 to develop a pre-clinical platform by combining PDX tumors and HuMurine's proprietary humanized NOG and hGM-CSF/hIL3 NOG mouse (Hu-M™ and Hu-3GM™ mouse) to perform efficacy and safety studies for novel anti-cancer immunotherapeutics. These studies have garnered significant interest from major pharmaceutical companies to evaluate proprietary immunotherapies in conjunction with the NIH-sponsored studies.
HuMurine made a $2,000 contribution to support the cancer center's annual research symposium.
