A Note from Scott and Marsha
August 20, 2020
Hello everyone! Scott here filling in for Marsha this week. I was not scheduled to fill in, but I asked her if she would defer and she politely agreed. OK, maybe I had to take her to dinner and buy her a nice drink, but either way, she conceded.

Usually, our story in the newsletter is lighthearted and easy-going, but I’ve decided to take a small turn. You see, sometimes there are things that are just important in life and we need to hit them head on.

Hopefully you've heard about our garden center neighbors who experienced a tragic house fire last Thursday. Dan is in his late 80s and deaf since birth, and Sally (pictured) is in her 70s experiencing symptoms of Parkinsons as well as currently under treatment for breast cancer. 2020 has been a tough year for everybody, but when you watch your home of 30 years and all you have go up in flames in a matter of 30 minutes, it’s especially tragic. To make matters worse, they had no insurance on the house or cars, and they live on fixed incomes. This scenario is overwhelming for even the strongest people. Yet, they still smile and are incredibly resilient with tender hearts.

Where do we come in? Stop for a second and think about the idea that your house, your cars and everything you’ve ever known is gone. You're living next door with your neighbor and trying to survive. We set up a GoFund Me page and the response has been fantastic. We have raised over $7200! But we can do more! Their immediate needs are buying a car and renting a place nearby so Dan still can tinker in his garages on the land and look to rebuild.  Most of us could easily spare $10, $25, $500 or $1000 and never miss it if we are being honest with ourselves. Would you please consider taking action and clicking here and making some type of donation? Together, let's make a huge difference in the lives of these people! We are working hard with other businesses and builders to provide options on cars and rebuilding. We will certainly keep everyone posted so you can see how your gift has helped their lives in the near future!  What a blessing and privilege to come together in a time such as this!
CAN YOU DO US A FAVOR?
Please consider donating to help Don and Sally, our Garden Center neighbors, who lost their home and cars in a devastating house fire. You can donate HERE.

If you love us as much as we love you, could you take the time to leave us a review? We would really appreciate it. If you can't leave us a great review, please let us know why. We love your feedback! We have included links above to make it as easy for you as possible. THANK YOU!

Flame Thrower Redbud
FLAME THROWER REDBUD
Redbuds are one of our favorite types of trees. The Flame Thrower is a show-stopper. The leaves begin deep burgundy then transition to yellow and then green. At any point during the summer and fall, you will enjoy multiple colors. It grows quickly to a height of 15-20 feet tall and will spread nearly as wide. Gorgeous dark purple flowers that grow directly on the branches in spring.
CARYOPTERIS DARK NIGHT
Looking for a shrub that offers late summer with intense color? Caryopteris Dark Knight is an excellent choice. The aromatic foliage and bright blue flowers are the features of this deciduous shrub that are sure to delight. While you and pollinators will love it, deer and rabbits won't! It stays rather small, only growing to about 3' x 3'. You can easily prune back in early spring to maintain shape. For best results, plant in part-shade.
