Greetings!
Can I level with you?
I, like any Chabad rabbi, wear many hats. Rabbi. Teacher. Counselor. Friend. Fundraiser. Administrator. (Comedian sometimes)...
As you can imagine, from that list, my least favorite has got to be fundraiser.
I don't enjoy approaching people, who look to me as their rabbi, teacher and friend, to ask for money. I'd much rather be sharing a torah thought with them or urging them to come to shul more often...
However, reality being what it is, rabbis need to raise funds. Especially Chabad rabbis, who are essentially the ones who carry the burden of the financial stability of the institutions they create and lead.
Our annual dinner is on Monday. It's our most important fundraiser of the year.
If you have already donated and booked tickets, THANK YOU!
If you have not and perhaps were thinking to sit this one out - I ask you, please give me a hand. Surprise me with your last minute dinner gift and reservation. You'll make my day... simply because I need your help to keep Chabad going. Plus, I'd absolutely LOVE IT if you were there on Monday night to celebrate this amazing, awesome, knockout dinner (with the best entertainment to date!)
Go to www.chabadpw.org/dinner. With a few clicks you can make a secure online donation to the Scroll of Honor and/or dinner reservations.
Go ahead - make my day!
Shabbat Shalom. See you at Shul on Shabbat (and at the dinner on Monday night?).
Rabbi Shalom M Paltiel

Advice from a Billionaire
By: Rabbi Aron Moss | Sydney, Australia
Question: I want to fulfil G-d's commandment to go forth and multiply. In fact, I want to have as many children as possible. However, my wife and I are struggling just to support ourselves. If we have lots of children in our current financial state we will be on welfare. I do believe G-d will provide so I can have lots of children, but this doesn't seem to be happening and I am getting impatient. Should we simply have a big family and hope for divine assistance so we can afford to live in a Jewish neighborhood and keep up with the standard of living? Or should we wait until we might be more financially ahead?

The Generation Gap

How Can Humans Claim to Know of "Other Worlds"?
Nobody has died and come back to tell us this information. Where does it come from?

My Letter to G-d
Thousands of people have committed to say extra prayers or do extra mitzvot in my husband's honor. The world is changing for the better. If I can see it from my little corner, I cannot begin to imagine what it must look like to You.

The Fluidity of Life
Who has not fallen prey to the oh-so-human tendency to compare his life to the lives of others? "If only I had So-and-So's mind (or talent, or money), then I'd be able to make a difference and have some impact on the world!″

Parshat Shlach
Moses sends twelve spies to the land of Canaan. Forty days later they return, carrying a huge cluster of grapes, a pomegranate and a fig, to report on a lush and bountiful land. But ten of the spies warn that the inhabitants of the land are giants and warriors "more powerful than we"; only Caleb and Joshua insist that the land can be conquered, as G-d has commanded.
The people weep that they'd rather return to Egypt. G-d decrees that Israel's entry into the Land shall be delayed forty years, during which time that entire generation will die out in the desert. A group of remorseful Jews storm the mountain on the border of the Land, and are routed by the Amalekites and Canaanites.
The laws of the menachot ( meal, wine and oil offerings) are given, as well as the mitzvah to consecrate a portion of the dough ( challah) to G-d when making bread. A man violates the Shabbat by gathering sticks, and is put to death. G-d instructs to place fringes ( tzitzit) on the four corners of our garments, so that we should remember to fulfill the mitzvot (divine commandments).
