Summer Time Means

Summer Critter Camp

Five weeks of Summer Critter Camp starts next week! We are so excited and have been hard at work to make sure our campers will have an amazing experience!

This years camp framework consists of Kindness, Working Together and Conservation. Everything we will be doing will tie all of these topics together allowing campers to find new appreciations for each other and the natural world around us.

We have lots of games, activities, crafts, guest speakers, and so much more planned.

We have also been working very closely with the Campton Hills Police Department to ensure we have an up-to-date safety plan in place.

Keep an eye out for pictures of what we will be doing each day at camp on our social media!

We have been working with Campton Hills Police Department to revise our safety plan for our programs and camps for an ever-changing world that we live in.

As the world changes, so should we, we feel. The safety of your children is our top priority. We want to ensure their time with us at programs and camps is a safe and fulfilling one with quality time spent outdoors in nature.

Campton Hills Police officers will be visiting for safety talks throughout our summer camp weeks to keep the conversations going about how to stay safe.

We greatly appreciate our partnership with the Campton Hills Police Department and their eagerness to be involved in this updated plan.

Pet Responsibility at our Parks & Open Spaces

We have noticed an increase in dog/horse poop at our parks and open spaces. Please clean up after your pets as this affects anyone who may use our parks as well as the wildlife. We ask that you take into consideration that other people do not want to come across your pets poop while enjoying the parks. Your pet could also be carrying something that may cause our local wildlife or other pets using the trails to become sick.

We have noticed an increase of dogs off leashes at a lot of our parks as well. We understand your furry friends love to run and roam. However, we have had a lot of park users that have brought up their concerns after coming across non friendly dogs. Dogs off leash are more likely to scare or even injure/kill wildlife that call our parks their home.

Please help us to make sure our parks remain safe and leash up your pups! We do have two dog parks, one at Headwaters Conservation Area and one at Poynor Park where they have room to run free in a controlled and safe environment.

Mark your calendars for this year’s Prairie Fest! Join us August 17th, for a free family friendly event! We will have music, wagon rides, great tasting BBQ food, lots of fun activities, a chance to tour the Historic Corron Farm, Taylor’s Battery Illinois Lights Artillery, Co. and the best corn on the cob by the Campton Township Open Space Foundation.

The Campton Township Open Space Foundation (CTOSF) will be selling raffle tickets at Prairie Fest on Saturday, August 17, 2024 to win an approximate 2-1/2" diameter x approximate 12' high Chinkapin Oak graciously donated by Wasco Nursery. This native to Kane County tree has a retail value of $650 and Wasco Nursery will also deliver locally to Campton Township. Planting is available at an additional cost.

You can also purchase raffle tickets at Wasco Nursery.

Preschool Pals

Preschool Pals will meet the third Tuesday of every month from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM and will be for ages 2-5 years old.

During May’s Preschool Pals we met at the Community Gardens. We started off our time together with a snack and began working on our garden. We went over al the basics of gardening and how to tend/care for their garden. We pulled weeds, planted our plants, watered our plants and then finished our time with decorating our garden! Eveeryone was so excited to get this opportunity and that we are teaching these lessons at such a young age! So much fun was had!

Reminder!! There will be no Preschool Pals during the month on June due to Critter Camp! We will see you all back in July!

A parent or guardian must accompany the child.

Preschool Pals will meet July 16th from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM.

Nature & Wildlife Detectives Club

Nature and Wildlife Detectives Club will meet the third Wednesday of every month. This club is for ages 5-10 and will meet at Historic Corron Farm.

Nature and Wildlife Detectives Club will meet June 19th from 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM.

Along with Preschool Pals, the Detectives this last month worked on their garden as well. After they were done weeding, planting and decorating we played an obstacle course game. Each team had the same types of objects to create their own obstacle course for the other team to complete. They had so much fun working together, explaining rules and watching the other team complete the obstacle course they all worked very hard on. Its so great to watch our detectives grow, learn and all become great friends!

Both clubs will be a great time encouraging kids to bring out their inner detective skills to see what creatures and different parts of nature we can discover. For instance, "what animal walked here last night and what were they doing?" Each month will be a different topic with different activities and crafts.

Registration is required!
