PROGRESS
Camp Chase Trail - Current PROGRESS

1/14/15:  The trail is now paved to Galloway Road - there are still Road Closed signs in place but people are using it.

As we announced previously, the City of Columbus City Council approved funds to build the 2.9 Miles between Georgesville Road and Eureka Ave.  The first step was to slightly move the railroad tracks on the viaduct over Broad Street,  this allows the trail and the Camp Chase Railway to share the same bridge.  Decorative fencing similar to the Harrison West Rail Trail will be added to the Rail bridge over Broad St.

Metro Parks has cleared the section between Galloway Road and Norton Road and gravel is in place (see photos on our facebook page)

Clearing has commenced in the section leading up to and leading from the trail Bridge over I-270; the prefabricated bridge over the interstate has not been placed yet (possibly January or February 2015).  This section is between Hall Road and Sullivant Road and is being built by Metro Parks with Righter Construction.   We expect this section to open mid-2015.  Clearing has begun on the section from Galloway Road to Hall Road.    There will be a small connector between the Metro Parks segment and the City of Columbus segment near Sullivant and Georgesville.  (See image in this newsletter)

The best place to access the trail and park a motor vehicle is at the Trailhead in Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park 8465 Alkire Road, GIS: 39.893428, -83.215835 Google Maps Link

Metro Parks also plans to spend $350,000 to complete a section of the Camp Chase Railroad Trail between Galloway and Hall roads in western Franklin County, finishing its segment of the Ohio-to-Erie trail connecting Cleveland and Cincinnati.   Metro Parks will hire another ranger to patrol the trail system.
