New Bike Infrastructure on Mt. Auburn Street

This project includes several improvements:
- A new, two-way separated bike lane on the north side of the street.
- Upgraded signal equipment and improved signal timing.
- Extended Bus Only lanes and new turn-only lanes at Homer Ave and Aberdeen Ave.
More construction is planned for the Spring of 2025, and will include:
- A new pedestrian crossing island crossing Aberdeen Avenue at Mt Auburn Street. The design will be completed using feedback from this project.
- Separated bike lanes on Aberdeen Avenue, which will narrow the travel lane but will not impact parking.

Transit Alerts: Summer Red Line Closures
|
|
August 2024 Red Line Closures: What to Know
The MBTA plans to close parts of the Red Line Monday, August 19 through Sunday, August 25:
-
There will be no Red Line trains between Kendall/MIT (Cambridge) and JFK/UMass (Boston).
- Riders should take FREE, accessible shuttle buses instead of Red Line trains.
- There will be free fares and open gates at Kendall/MIT and JFK/UMass stations.
Shuttle Buses:
The shuttle will follow a special route between Kendall/MIT and JFK/UMass. It will stop at Kendall/MIT, Charles/MGH, Haymarket, State, close to Downtown Crossing (locations below), South Station, Broadway, Andrew, and JFK/UMass.
- This shuttle will not stop at Park Street.
- This shuttle will stop close to Downtown Crossing:
- Southbound (to JFK/UMass) stop: Otis St @ Summer St.
- Northbound (to Kendall/MIT) stop: Federal St @ Franklin St.
- To travel between Downtown Crossing and Park Street, riders should use the Winter Street Concourse.
Other Transit Options:
- The Commuter Rail will be FREE between Braintree and South Station, and between Porter and North Station.
- Bluebikes: Use code MBTAREDAUGUST through the Bluebikes app for five free unlocks during the shutdown. E-bike per minute fees still apply.
- Shuttle buses will also stop at State and Haymarket for easier connections to the Orange, Blue, and Green lines.

Transportation Demand Management Program Report

The 2023 Transportation Demand Management Program Report is now available!
|
Cambridge Transportation Demand Management (TDM) completes yearly reports of transportation monitoring. The 2023 report is the first full year of monitoring since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The report contains the following information and more:
- How people traveled to properties in the TDM Program.
- The most popular reasons for using each transportation mode.
- Weekly remote work patterns.

Cambridge Street Project Working Group
|
|
The City is seeking volunteers to serve on a new Working Group to help advise the Safety Improvement Project on Cambridge Street. The application deadline is Monday, September 9, 2024.
The Working Group is intended to represent many perspectives in the development and design process so we learn about the interests of the larger community.
Responsibilities of Working Group members include:
- Provide feedback on the design of the project, including the layout of parking spaces, loading zones, bike lanes, crosswalks, and bus stops.
- Discuss project concerns and work together on solutions.
- Support information sharing and constructive conversation about the project with different stakeholders, including businesses, residents, visitors, business patrons, and City staff.

The City of Cambridge is making safety improvements, including the installation of separated bike lanes, on Cambridge Street between Inman Square and Second Street. Design feedback is underway for Section A (Oak Street to Willow Street). See the project website for roll plans and more details.
