Heat, often combined with high humidity during the summer, can create serious health risks. Older adults, infants and those with certain chronic illnesses, such as asthma, are particularly at risk.
During periods of extreme heat, staying in an air-conditioned area is the most effective way to prevent heat-related illnesses. Public places like libraries and community centers, and senior centers for older adults offer temporary respite from the heat.
