Celebrating Juneteenth!
Juneteenth National Independence Day marks the end of enslavement in the United States. Although the Emancipation Proclamation was issued on Jan. 1, 1863, it wasn't until June 19, 1865, that the news reached Texas, finally bringing freedom to all.
Juneteenth is a day to reflect on our shared journey and celebrate how far we've come. Let's embrace this day as an opportunity to come together, to learn, understand and work towards a brighter future for everyone. Every day is a chance to build a better tomorrow for everyone through resilience, progress and the power of community.
County offices are closed Wednesday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth. The Appeal Landfill, convenience centers, parks and pools are operating, but may have modified hours.
