On the Test Track with Electric Trainset #1
Testing of electric trainset #1 continues in Pueblo, Colo. In April, Acting Executive Director Michelle Bouchard and CalMod Program Chief Officer John Funghi visited the Transportation Technology Center facility, where they experienced the train running at and above corridor speeds. The train will continue to undergo a variety of tests for the next seven months. Stay tuned for more footage to come!

New Hillsdale Station Opens
The new Hillsdale Station opened for passenger service on April 26, 2021. Located a few blocks north of the original station, it serves as a major access point to world-renowned company headquarters, shopping and entertainment, the event center, local restaurants, and a variety of neighborhoods. The station features new amenities and a center-boarding platform that eliminates the need for riders to wait at a crossing gate to move between platforms.

This is a major milestone for the 25th Avenue Grade Separation Project which improves safety and traffic flow, and reduces horn noise in our communities. Thank you to the city of San Mateo, San Mateo County Transportation Authority, California High Speed Rail Authority, and Caltrans for making this project possible.

Lighting the Way with Energy Efficient Stations
In 2018, Caltrain switched to 100% renewable energy, but in our ongoing commitment to sustainability we recently converted the existing lights at 20 passenger stations to energy-efficient LEDs. This saves the equivalent electricity consumption of approximately 1,600 U.S. residential homes per year. Retrofitting more than 2,700 lights also saves Caltrain over $250,000 in annual electricity costs. The exterior light casings remain the same, as well as the overall illumination; but with this project, Caltrain continues in its efforts to be a cleaner and greener service for the communities it serves.

Opening of Giants Season with Caltrain
It’s been a longer break than usual, but Caltrain was at the ready to take fans back to see the San Francisco Giants play their home opener. With the San Francisco Station located just one block from Oracle Park, Caltrain is still the best way to get there. For more information, go to www.caltrain.com/sfgiants.
Calling All Warriors Fans! Take Caltrain to the Game
Golden State Warriors fans headed back to the Chase Center in April. With Caltrain’s San Francisco Station less than a mile away, fans can walk or transfer to Muni Light Rail (which is free with a Warriors ticket) and arrive safe and energized to cheer on the Dubs. For more information, go to www.caltrain.com/chasecenter.
In light of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the Bay Area, Caltrain is monitoring the situation and following local public health agencies and CDC guidance regarding public meetings.
Caltrain is implementing a bold service vision for the future with a series of infrastructure and planning projects to modernize the system. Central among these projects is Electrification, which lays the foundation for a faster, greener, cleaner, and more reliable system for everyone.
