Calling All Heroes!

How do you define a hero? A person that has distinguished courage or ability? Or is it someone that is admired for their brave deeds or noble qualities? At Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service (MVLS) we see heroes every day in our volunteer attorneys who embody these principles.

Last year, MVLS volunteer lawyers were heroes to 7,206 Marylanders in need of civil legal assistance. This is no small feat, but sadly the need keeps growing.

We are asking YOU, to also be a hero to our clients, and make a donation to support this important work.

MVLS needs to raise $40,000 before the end of our fiscal year in June to increase  services in areas where we have high client demand such as expungement, family law, consumer and housing.

As you read this email, our team is fielding phone calls from people across the state who need a pro bono lawyer to protect their family, home and income. Your gift, of any amount, will protect the basic legal rights of these Marylanders.

Thank you for your generous support of MVLS and pro bono.

MVLS LAUNCHES BANKRUPTCY BYPASS PROGRAM

Thanks to a grant from the American College of Bankruptcy Foundation, MVLS is excited to announce the launch of our new Bankruptcy Bypass Program. This program targets individuals who are collection proof, but still experiencing a lot of calls and/or harassment from creditors and want to file for bankruptcy as a way to stop the harassment.

The Bankruptcy Bypass Program is designed to help stop creditor harassment of these individuals without having to go through the expense and hassle of bankruptcy. Further, should these individuals need bankruptcy in the future, they won't have to wait another 7 to 8 years from the previous filing.

MVLS will be hosting clinics where clients can meet with an attorney in order to establish if they are collection proof and get legal services. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer with this new program, please consider participating in a free training on May 4 or contact Amy Hennen at 443-451-4064.
