The Opening Prayer

O God,
We open our eyes and we see Jesus,
the months of ministry transfigured to a beam of light,
the light of the world,
your light.
May your light shine upon us.

We open our eyes and we see Moses and Elijah,
your word restoring us, showing us the way,
telling a story,
your story, his story, our story.
May your word speak to us.

We open our eyes and we see mist,
the cloud of your presence
which assures us of all we do not know
and that we do not need to fear that.
Teach us to trust.

We open our eyes and we see Peter’s constructions,
his best plans, our best plans,
our missing the point,
our missing the way.
Forgive our foolishness and sin
We open our eyes and we see Jesus,
not casting us off,
but leading us down, leading us out -
to ministry, to people.
Your love endures forever.
We open our ears and we hear your voice,
‘This is my beloved Son, listen to him!’

And we give you thanks as we pray the prayer Jesus taught us:

Our Father, which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth,
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,
the power, and the glory,
For ever and ever. Amen.

Time For Our Children - This is the story of the Transfiguration of Jesus. What is it like to experience God? Does God really appear to us like he did in the bible? Take time to watch this, read the scripture, and wrestle with how you experience God.

The Morning Prayers

O God of mystery and wonder, God of dazzling splendor, God of the high mountain, God of Patriarch and Prophet, God of all days and all nights and all circumstance: Beyond every qualifier, every descriptive phrase, you stand alone, enshrouded in the cloud of my unknowing. Before you we stand terrified and speechless. We fall before you, humbled and bowed down. Speak to me, O God, out of my clouded vision. Point us to the Son, the Sun. Show us your pleasure Open my ears to his voice. Hear us as we pray...

Heal our self-centeredness and indifference that makes us worry only when the virus threatens us, open ways beyond timidity and fear that too easily ignore our neighbor.

Strengthen and encourage those in public health services and in the medical profession: care-givers, nurses, attendants, doctors, all who commit themselves to caring for the sick and their families.

For our friends working the Covid19 front lines: Alayne Snyder, Drs. Johnny and Riny Kovoor. and Erik Lindholm. Direct their hands and all their colleagues worldwide, protect them from illness and sustain their energy.

Guide the leaders of the nations that they speak the truth, halt the spread of misinformation and act with justice so that all your family may know healing.

Heal our world, heal our bodies, strengthen our hearts and our minds, and in the midst of turmoil, give us hope and peace.

Hold in your gentle embrace all who have died and who will die this day. Especially for Pat Washburn's friend Marilyn Maxwell who passed away after a fight with cancer. Comfort their loved ones in their despair.

O God our Healer, show your compassion for the whole human family that is in turmoil and burdened with illness and with fear.

We celebrate Charlie Cassidy's successful surgery and that he is now back home and doing well.

Come to our aid as the coronavirus spreads globally, heal those who are sick, support and protect their families and friends from being infected.

We continue to pray for a former member who's friend lives in Germany and has been in the hospital for a month and is now is fighting Covid as well.

Grant us your spirit of love and self-discipline so that we may come together, working to control and eliminate the coronavirus.

Make us vigilant, attentive, and proactive in the eradication of all diseases, malaria, dengue, HIV & AIDS, and others that create suffering and often result in death for many people.

Sustain all workers and business owners who suffer loss of livelihood due to shut-downs, quarantines, closed borders, and other restrictions… protect and guard all those who must travel.

We have in our thoughts and prayers friends who have moved afar but are still close in our hearts: Marilyn Van Tine, Pauline and Marty Bluver and their entire family, Barbara and Charlie Cassidy and Erna Burton.

We ask all this through Jesus the Christ, Amen.

Closing Hymn - Jesus Shall Reign
The Benediction
God of glory and mercy, before his death, your Son went to the mountain top and you revealed his life in glory. Where prophets witnessed to him, you proclaimed him your Son, but he returned to die among us.

Help us face evil with courage, knowing that all things, even death, are subject to your transforming power. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
