Thoughts on Today's Verse
Hope has become such a "wimpy" term in modern vocabulary. It hardly qualifies as an adequate translation of the meaning in most New Testament passages. Hope is the assurance that what we believe will happen. We could call it spiritual confidence. We have that spiritual confidence because more than just a wish, more than just an emotion, more than just a belief rests in our heart; God himself lives in us through his Holy Spirit. When we become Christians, Jesus pours out the Spirit upon us (Titus 3:3-7) as God's gift to us (Acts 2:38Acts 5:32) to cleanse us (1 Corinthians 6:11), make us part of the same Body (1 Corinthians 12:12-13), and live inside us (1 Cor. 6:19-20). Paul adds one more thing to that list of blessings from God's presence within us — God's love. We don't just have it; God keeps refreshing it through the Holy Spirit, just as Jesus had promised (John 7:37-39).

Prayer through the Ages
In our weakness, O Christ, let us trust your strength; in our darkness let us see your light; in our doubt let us feel your presence and in our despair let us cling to your Cross; for your truth and your mercies’ sake. Amen.

Prayer of the Day
Holy and Almighty God, awesome in power and majestic in holiness, thank you for not only coming to us in Jesus, but thank you also for living in us through your Spirit. Please pour your love into my heart so that the fruit of your grace may flow from me to those around me and everyone around me will know of your grace. As we pray Jesus' name...

God grant us the patience to work together, bring us all together as a family.

Help us work together with understanding and compassion in our hearts. Let us not be rude or arrogant towards one another, as we light the way to your heavenly kingdom.

We pray for our nation and our leaders who lead us day by dayand for those taking up new positions in our government. Help them to work together towards the good of the nation as we strive to overcome the effects of the pandemic, ailing economy and a divided population.

For those sick with Covid19. God, heal and sustain their bodies and spirits

Help all hospital workers as they deal with overwhelming numbers of patients and give them strength to carry on when all seems hopeless and they are weary.

For our friends working the Covid19 front lines: Alayne Snyder, Drs. Johnny and Riny Kovoor. and Erik Lindholm.

We pray for those who are thirsty for truth, love and grace; that misinformation be curbed that fear may take no hold in hearts and minds; that those who seek God and his life with earnest hearts may find peace.

We pray for those who are experiencing the consequences of death, the bereaved and those who are mourning the loss of loved ones, whether recently or some time ago.

We pray for those who are in pain, suffering from illness either physical or mental, both at home and in hospital, or hospice.

We ask that the Holy Spirit prompt us in those moments of worry to turn toward you in thanksgiving.

We think of the elderly, the housebound and those in care homes. And we pray for all who care to their needs, both professionally and in the family.

God, protect our vulnerable populations and our elderly and those suffering from chronic disease; provide for the poor, especially the uninsured.

We pray for our families, for every relationship most dear to us, that you would guard our time, and our lives together.

For our friends, family and colleagues where ever they may be throughout the country and world.

We thank you for the vaccines currently being distributed as we set a record for deaths in the US every day.

We pray for those who are crying; the sad, the depressed and the anxious. We hope in the promise that God will wipe every tear from our eyes.

We ask all this through Jesus the Christ, Amen.
