Biden administration releases FY 2025 budget proposal, includes afterschool related funding


The lack of a proposed increase for 21st CCLC comes amidst record unmet demand for afterschool programs, as well as increasing program costs. There are 24.7 million children who are not in an afterschool program, but would be enrolled if a program were available to them. That means that for every child in an afterschool program, four more are waiting for one.

A Tampa high school student is representing the area at the first-ever National STEM Festival in Washington, D.C. Rudra Patel is a junior at Middleton High School. He is the creator of NIMBL, a device that allows people suffering from motor disabilities such as paralysis to regain control of their bodies.

LoanDepot and Miami Marlins Foundation Continue Support for Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade Through "Runs Scored" Program

The Official Naming Rights partner of the home of the Miami Marlins and the Official Mortgage Provider of the team, has announced the return of its “Runs Scored” program with the Miami Marlins Foundation. For the fourth consecutive year, the organizations are pledging $50 to Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade for every Marlins run scored at loanDepot park.

Florida Tech's Latest Grant Program to Boost STEM Workforce with Homegrown Talent through scholarships

A new grant program developed at Florida Tech and starting in Fall 2024 will allow high-achieving Brevard County students with unmet financial needs to attend the renowned private university in Melbourne. Under the Brevard Boundless Opportunity Grant program, admitted students who meet all eligibility requirements and enroll full-time at Florida Tech on the Melbourne campus will receive a scholarship to cover their tuition and fees.

LEARNING FROM OTHERS: Charlotte afterschool program aims to break cycle of youth crime and violence

TreSports serves as an afterschool program for juveniles after they’ve committed crimes in Mecklenburg County. Students age 11 and up get picked up from school and taken to TreSports for wraparound services including sports programs, help with homework and programming on everything from conflict resolution to finding employment.

Building Skills in Afterschool: STEM Next and Qualcomm, Inc. Lead the Way for Future Innovators

Qualcomm, Inc. is collaborating with afterschool and summer programs throughout the country. Thinkabit Lab curriculum and organized training with out-of-school time (OST) programs to provide students with a unique experience and exposure to STEM careers they may not have known existed. Of the students served, from seven different program sites, over half reported that they will continue to pursue a career in STEM.

2024 Policy Outlook for the OST Field: Out-of-School Time Monthly Field Convening
