Pick-up Date: November 4, 2024, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.


The Department of Art & Design at the University of Massachusetts Lowell is partnering with the Whistler House Museum of Art, Arts League of Lowell, Brush Art Gallery and Studios, and the DRAW team from Columbia University to bring DRAWLOWELL: confluence to Lowell in order to build community and make space for conversations about contemporary drawing practices in the Gateway City. DRAWLOWELL: confluence is an exhibition that foregrounds a broader definition of drawing as a means of sharing ideas and forging connections between art communities in Lowell and the wider art world.


Reception Openings: Saturday, September 14, 2024

University Gallery at UML: 2 – 4 p.m.

Brush Art Gallery and Studios: 2 – 4 p.m.

Arts League of Lowell: 3 – 5 p.m.

Whistler House Museum of Art: 3 – 6 p.m.

Arts Resource Collaborative: all day (continuous window display)


Jurors: The DRAWLOWELL: confluence Organizing Team.


Entry Fee: The WHMA is waving the traditional entry fee for this exhibition. All current members in good standing may submit up to three (3) works of art. If the cost of membership represents a hardship for you, please indicate this on the Google Form.


Entry Requirements: Submissions must be works on paper or works made of paper no larger than 40 inches in any direction. Framing is not required for this exhibition; unframed work will be hung with magnets, so please leave a border.

The Whistler House Museum of Art, located in Lowell, Massachusetts, is the historic birthplace of the famous American artist James McNeill Whistler. Established in 1878 as the Lowell Art Association Inc., it is the oldest incorporated art association in the United States. The WHMA is known internationally for its distinguished collection of 19th and early 20th century New England representational art, including works by Whistler, Gorky, and Sargent. The historic home hosts many exhibits, lectures, concerts, educational and community programs, and an array of social events in the residence, Parker Gallery, and adjoining Whistler Park. Hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 11am4pm.
