From the Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023 Calhoun County Board of Commissioners Meeting


At the Dec. 21, 2023 meeting, Commissioners read a proclamation for the retirement of the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office special deputy K9 Rocket. On the consent agenda, The Board scheduled their 2024 organizational session for Thursday, Jan. 18, 2024 at 7 p.m., as well as the appointment of Dr. Patrick A Hansma as Calhoun County Medical Examiner from Western Michigan University's Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine. There was also a closed session at the end of the meeting to discuss pending litigation.

In new business, Commissioners approved:

  • Senior Services 2023 RFP awarded contracts
  • the APAA Collective Bargaining Agreement for 2024-2025
  • the TPOAM-Health Collective Bargaining Agreement for 2024-2026
  • the TPOAM Collective Bargaining Agreement for 2024-2026
  • year-end budget amendments for 2023

Happy Holidays!

I'd like to personally wish Calhoun County employees and their families, along with our residents, a happy holiday season, a Merry Christmas, and a joyful new year. This is a time to rest, recharge, and enjoy time with our loved ones. I am grateful to you for a successful 2023, and look forward to seeing what we can accomplish in 2024.

 

Please note that County Offices are closed Dec. 25-26 and Jan. 1-2 in observance of Christmas and the New Year. Also the County Building in Marshall is closed to the public Dec. 27-29, with some offices offering appointments for services. We will be back open for full business beginning Wednesday, Jan. 3! 

Calhoun County Economic Development Corporation meeting was held on Wednesday, Dec. 13. At this meeting, economic development representatives from Battle Creek, Marshall, Albion, Springfield and the Village of Homer provided updates and the group discussed the possibility of hosting a Manufacturing Leadership Summit for local manufacturing businesses in early 2024.

 

Calhoun County Veterans Affairs Committee meeting was held on Wednesday, Dec. 13. The Committee discussed the year-to-date budget and the KCC scholarship for County veterans, as well as voted on new officers for the Committee and 2024 meeting dates. Seven applications for the Veterans Relief Fund totaling $14,193.04.

 

On Dec. 18, a meeting was held for County elected officials and department heads, and staff from the Michigan Association of Counties attended to provide a legislative update for County leadership.
