Protect your children and neighbors going back to school and before the winter COVID-19 season. CalOptima Health invites community members 5 years and older (Anaheim location) and 3 years and older (Santa Ana locations) to get their vaccine or booster on the following dates:


• Saturday, September 17, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. — Key Elementary School 2000 W. Ball Rd., Anaheim


• Wednesday, September 21, from 2–6 p.m. — Pio Pico Elementary School 931 W. Highland St. Santa Ana, CA 92703


• Saturday, October 8, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. — Villa Fundamental Intermediate School 1441 E. Chestnut Ave.

CalOptima Health will be on-site to check Medi-Cal eligibility, give $25 Member Health Rewards to eligible members and host a resource table. Virtual CME and CE Workshop: The Medicare Annual Wellness Visit: Tips and Tools 

A virtual CME and CE workshop for Physicians and Licensed Health Care Professional on the Medicare Annual Wellness Visit: Tips and Tools will take place on September 14, from Noon–1 p.m. The event will discuss the types of Annual Wellness Visit, patient benefits that can result from the visit, the different tools and resources available online for successful completion of the visit and the documentation needed for appropriate reimbursement.

Back-to-School Vaccination Events Reach More Than 450 Families

CalOptima Health held seven vaccination events in July and August offering health resources, school-required vaccines and school supplies to children and their families. The events were held in areas of high need with a focus on serving the uninsured, underinsured and those experiencing homelessness. 


Highlights included:


• Two of the events were held for children and families experiencing homelessness 

• More than 1,200 participants (450 families) 

• More than 10 community partners, including Federally Qualified Health

Centers (FQHCs), community-based organizations and school districts 


Thank you to the staff and community partners who collaborated with the CalOptima Health’s Population Health Management, Quality Initiatives team to make the events possible. 


InfoSeries on Family Homelessness Event Materials

On August 23, CalOptima Health hosted a virtual InfoSeries on Family Homelessness. The event provided information on national and local efforts to address family homelessness, a CalAIM update, new Community Supports and how members can access these services. Find a COVID-19 Vaccine

The Orange County Health Care Agency makes it easy for individuals to get a COVID-19 vaccine. There are several ways to find an appointment. Click here for options.


Vaccinations are also available for anyone who is homebound, and transportation services are available for those who need a ride to a vaccination site. If you need help scheduling a vaccination appointment, call the OC COVID-19 Hotline at 714-834-2000.

Test to Treat for COVID-19

Safe and effective at-home treatments for COVID-19 are now available. Most treatments must be started within five days of experiencing symptoms. CalOptima Health encourages community members to get tested and talk to their health care provider or find a Test to Treat location as soon as they notice symptoms. To find the nearest Test to Treat location, call 1-800-232-0233 or visit the California Department of Public Health website.

OC Health Care Agency Now Offering Novavax Vaccine

The OC Health Care Agency (HCA) has begun administering Novavax vaccines at HCA-managed vaccination sites. Novavax is a two-dose vaccine, given three weeks apart. Anyone currently unvaccinated for COVID-19 and seeking the Novavax vaccine, can visit www.othena.com to schedule an appointment. Some pharmacy locations are also offering Novavax through www.vaccines.gov.To read the full press release, click here.

Virtual Presentation on Aging and Homelessness Among Older Adults

Aging and Homelessness: A Local Perspective” a virtual Zoom presentation, will be held on Thursday, September 22, from Noon–12:45 p.m. This event is part of the United Way’s Community Chat series and will cover the issue of homelessness in the senior and older adult population, what this growing trend means for the Orange County community and what is being done to address it. 


Guest speakers include:


• Kelly Bruno-Nelson, CalOptima Health Executive Director, Medi-Cal/CalAIM 

• Santa Bob, Lived Experience Advisory Committee Member, Orange County Continuum of Care 

Reach In OC for Suicide Prevention Week

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) OC launched the Reach In campaign for Suicide Prevention Week, which takes place from September 4-10. The "Reach In" challenge encourages individuals to do our part to "reach in" to our family, friends, and neighbors to open up conversations about suicide and help those in distress. High Temperatures in Bring Risk of Heat-Related Illnesses

Temperatures in most of Orange County are expected to continue reaching the high 90’s. Prolonged exposure to excessive temperatures may cause serious conditions like heat cramps or heatstroke and can even be fatal. Symptoms of heat exhaustion may include heavy sweating, muscle cramps, weakness, headache, nausea or vomiting and dizziness. To read the Orange County Health Care Agency press release, click here.

White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health

On Wednesday, September 28, the Biden-Harris Administration will host the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health. The Administration will also release a National Strategy with actions the federal government will take to drive solutions to these challenges. To learn more about the conference, click here. 2021 OC Hate Crimes Report Release Webinar

OC Human Relations will present their annual Hate Crime Report to the community members of Orange County on Thursday, September 15 from 10-11:30 a.m. The webinar will discuss the various hate activities that occurred, in 2021, how the hate reporting process works, and, how to report hate activity. Social Determinants of Health Meeting

Association for Community Affiliated Plans (ACAP)'s 1st Annual Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 13 and Friday, October 14 in Portland, OR. This event is being conducted under the auspices of ACAP’s Center for SDOH Innovation. ACAP’s first SDOH-focused meeting promises to be a great opportunity for member plans to learn about the latest trends and concepts related to SDOH while exchanging ideas about approaches plans can use to address their beneficiaries’ SDOH needs. There is no registration cost for ACAP plan members to attend any of these events. To register, click here.

How to Contact CalOptima Health During the COVID-19 Pandemic
CalOptima Health Customer Service remains ready to respond to member needs as we adhere to guidelines to reduce the possibility of COVID-19 transmission. Our building is closed to visitors. Members can call Customer Service from the safety of their home, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We have staff who speak their language. Members can also visit www.caloptima.org and access their member portal.
