Cal Bonniver Named 2013 Master Artist
Cal Bonniver gives an acceptance speech after being named this year's Master Artist by the Door County Art League.

The Gallery at Door Peninsula Winery hosted the opening reception Aug. 27 for its latest exhibition. Sixty-seven pieces of art were unveiled to a VIP audience in an exhibit presented in cooperation with the Door County Art League and coordinated by Woodwalk Gallery.

"This is absolutely a flowering of Door County artists," Woodwalk Gallery manager/owner Allin Walker said. "It is people who have very little experience all the way through people with years and years of experience."

Elizabeth Heller, president of the Door County Art League, said this was a chance to showcase a unique part of Door Peninsula Winery.

"The wall space is beautiful. It's two levels high. Literally, thousands of people go to the winery every week. So, it's a perfect venue for tourists and native people to come and see some wonderful art all year long," she said.

Molly Rhode grew up in Brookfield, but during eighth grade, auditioned and was accepted as an exchange student in the theater program at the Milwaukee High School of the Arts.

After high school, Molly was admitted to the highly selective theater program at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where she majored in theatre studies with a double-emphasis in playwriting and directing. "When I went off to college, I had no idea where I'd end up," she says. "I was very surprised by the end of my junior year to realize how much I missed Wisconsin."

Sister Bay Hosts 20th Annual Marina Fest
By Sally Slattery

Twenty years ago Sister Bay locals Fuzzy Sunstrom, Cal Lundquist, and Jack Bunda decided to throw a 'thank you' to the boating community after the building of Sister Bay's marina.

"The matter of building that marina was controversial," says Sharon Doersching. "That was a lot of money, but by Fourth of July all the slips were full." A party was in order, and was such a success it became an annual event.

Camp Where Cousins Become Best Friends

How often have you heard a grandparent say, "Oh, I adore my grandchildren. I love it when they come, and I love it when they go!"? Pat and Dennis Kaldor, who have a large log home on several acres off Highway F, are cut from a different mold. They love it when their grandchildren come and stay at Cousins Camp.

Since 2007, the youngsters from Madison and Muskego, Wis., and suburban St. Louis, Missouri, have been spending time together each summer at Cousins Camp, "where cousins become best friends."
