More than a game

Following loss, man finds new life at Concord Senior Center

Following his wife's passing in 2022, Kannapolis native Steve Wilhelm came to the Concord Senior Center looking to play pool. He found that and so much more.

Finding Purpose and Community at the Concord Senior Center

“My first time coming here was a wonderful experience,” says Wilhelm “I’m so thankful that I can come up here, shoot pool and enjoy myself. It’s a good environment and that’s what the world needs more of: good environments for everyone.”

The people he’s met at the senior center are “like my brothers and sisters,” he says. “I love them so much and they have been really good to me.”

Wilhelm says he spent years saddled with bad habits. He'd smoke and drink while playing pool at bars. He’s past that now. His faith, encouraged by his wife, helped "deliver” him. The senior center keeps him on the right path.

At first, Sprout may seem a bit shy, but once he gets to know you, his sweet and loving nature shines through. Sprout has a soft spot for treats and is a pro at sitting on command. He would thrive in a patient and understanding home that can help him build his confidence and feel secure.

If you're considering adding Sprout to your family, a dog meet and greet is required to ensure that he gets along well with any furry friends you may already have.
