Community Wildfire Protection Plan End of Year Newsletter

From Seth Schalet, Santa Clara County FireSafe Council CEO

Public Input and Feedback on the Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) Update

As part of the CWPP update process, the month of December was spent engaging the public and seeking community input on the CWPP process. We held in-person and Zoom based meetings in each of the five Santa Clara County Board of Supervisor Districts. We were joined by many of our partners in the CWPP process: Santa Clara County Fire Department, CAL FIRE, the fire departments of Milpitas and San Jose, The Santa Clara County Office of Emergency Management, Supervisors Otto Lee, Cindy Chavez, Susan Ellenberg and Kris Zanardi, Policy Director, representing Supervisor Simitian’s office and Santa Clara County FireSafe Council board member, who made presentations and took attendee questions.

Special thanks to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors for their Letter of Support for SCCFSC’s County Coordinator grant application. If successful, this will help to continue CWPP implementation efforts and further support wildfire preparedness efforts throughout Santa Clara County. Thank you to the staffs of each of the Board of Supervisors for your time, efforts and support to making each of these meetings a success. Thank you to CAL FIRE’s Santa Clara Unit for the $250,000 grant award to update the CWPP and to SCU Unit Chief George Huang and Division Chief Ed Orre for all your efforts in this process. Finally, thank you to the Santa Clara County FireSafe Council staff-especially Amanda Brenner Cannon and Tara Wallichs and to our board members and partners.

Regards

Seth Schalet

CEO
