Yoder Update - July/August 2024

“Remember when ….” This was a phrase that was said many times as I took a trip back to Washington, Pennsylvania the last week of July. This is where Christian World Outreach (CWO) had it beginning. Many times in scripture God says to remember what He has done. Remembering is taking time to look back at the past and is always a great reminder of what God has done which is an encouragement to keep doing the work He has put before us. God has done a lot through CWO over the years and it was great to visit with those who were a part of CWO’s beginning.

Back in June 19, 1977 God called a group of five people in Washington, including my dad and mom, to start CWO in Haiti. Working with the youth leaders in the existing Haitian churches was the start of the work being done there. A few years later the Feminine Training Center (FTC) was started. God has been faithful to guide as the ministry has grown to now have eight churches, three FTCs, two locations with feeding programs and some health care work.

I was joined on the trip to Washington by Karen Pasquariello, CWOs first missionary to Haiti. Karen went to Haiti in July of 1979 as the first missionary and I followed in January of 1980. We worked together getting the CWO ministry established and preparing for teams that would come help run youth camps in the summer. In 1982 Laura and I were married and we began working together with CWO. I worked preparing for teams to come to Haiti and other administrative work while Laura helped with the FTC.

While in Washington, I was able to speak at two of the original supporting churches, sharing how the ministry has grown beyond the borders of Haiti. We also shared with a Sunday school class, at a CWO open house, meet with individuals and kicked off VBS. All of these times gave those who attended an opportunity to remember each one’s involvement with CWO as it started and also to share about the new ministries in Burkina Faso, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.

Beginning in 1999 through 2000 God called CWO to Burkina Faso, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Each time ministries began through relationship that God built. God provided faithful ministry leaders in each of these countries and the ministries in these countries have grown. We cannot be too disappointed that the ministry in Zambia had to end in 2020 because God is still working through the lives of some of the nephews’ lives. In 2020 God again called CWO through new relationships to expand the ministry to South Africa and Sri Lanka.

It has been good to look back and remember how God started the ministries of CWO. We look forward to seeing how he will work in the future.

Laura and I are grateful for you as we remember when you began to join us on our journey with CWO. God has blessed us with many years of faithful co-workers, prayer partners and financial supporters. As we remember you we thank God for putting you in our lives and blessing us so richly. Thank you for being a part of God’s work.

Serving Together,

Greg and Laura
