White House Seeks Urgent Temporary WIC Funding

Last week the White House urged Congress to approve $1.4 billion in emergency funding for WIC as part of any short-term funding proposal passed before September 30th to avoid a government shutdown. Chilling Effect of Trump-Era Public Charge Rule Lingers

Key findings include:

  • 25% of adults in mixed-status families did not participate in safety net programs in 2022 because of green card concerns.
  • The chilling effect even reaches households where all family members are naturalized or US-born citizens, with 7% of adults in all-citizen families reporting they avoided safety net programs.
