CUNY Callouts

Francisco Delgado, is a Queens-based writer and educator and a professor at Borough of Manhattan Community College. He is of CHamoru descent and also traces his lineage to the Tonawanda Band of Seneca. Throughout his career, he has written extensively on topics related to Native American and Indigenous history and culture. He is an English professor at BMCC and sits on the board of CUNY’s Asian American/Asian Research Institute. In his free time, he loves taking long walks in his neighborhood and spending quality time with his son.

What brought you to CUNY?

“I came to CUNY to complete my master’s in English. At the time, I was in my hometown in upstate New York, and I wanted to make the move to NYC where many of my college friends were.”

What do you most emphasize when you tell someone you work and teach at CUNY?

“The students. They make the job most rewarding for me. They come from every cultural, geographical and linguistic background you can imagine, joined by a common goal to better themselves and the lives of their loved ones.”
