NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Church Office will be closed on Tuesday, June 11, in observance of the King Kamehameha Day holiday, which honors Kamehameha the Great, the monarch who first established the unified Kingdom of Hawaiʻi.

In one week, Central Union will be hosting the 202nd ‘Aha Pae‘āina of the Hawai‘i Conference United Church of Christ (HCUCC). Approximately 200 people from our sister UCC churches will gather on our campus starting on the afternoon of Thursday, June 13, through Saturday, June 15, to worship together, build community and reflect on the life of our Conference.

Would you be willing to share some of your time and talent during these days to help our church provide a warm welcome and hospitality to our guests?

We are in great need of help with the following:

  • Welcoming and providing directions to ‘Aha delegates and guests
  • Helping set up food and beverages for meals
  • Helping clean up after meals
  • Helping set out beverages and snacks
  • Donating snacks

Please sign up HERE if you are willing to volunteer for a shift(s)! If you have any questions, contact Natasha at Pastor Rushan’s office (808-440-3004 or natasha-dator@centralunionchurch.org).

Our Flower Committee will help to beautify our gathering space for the ‘Aha. They are in need of tropical flowers, such as heliconia and ginger. If you have access to any and are willing to share, we'd love to include your flowers in our arrangements throughout the week!

Flowers can be dropped off on Tuesday, June 11, between 8 AM - 7 PM, or Wednesday, June 12, between 8-11 AM (before the Serving Aloha traffic). There will be buckets outside the Church Office entrance where you can leave your flowers. If you have any questions or want to let us know you'll be sharing some flowers, you can email news@centralunionchurch.org. Mahalo!

Become a Member!

Interested in becoming a member of CUC? Join Pastor Rushan in the Rewick Board Room (in the Admin Building) to learn more about church membership on Sunday, June 23, at 10 AM (between the 9 AM and 11 AM services).

June is Gun Violence Awareness Month

June is Gun Violence Awareness Month and this weekend (June 7-9) is Wear Orange weekend! You can wear orange to honor survivors and show support for a future free from gun violence. Read more about the Wear Orange campaign.

REMINDER: At the 200th ‘Aha Pae‘āina of the Hawai‘i Conference UCC in 2022, Central Union put forth a resolution of witness which was affirmed by the delegates and calls our churches and members “to make their voices heard in the wider community” that “the time has come for us all to actively promote peace and engage in efforts to end gun violence.” It implored churches “to pray for peace and for an end to these horrific acts of violence, and to let our prayers move us to meaningful action.”

Readers Needed for Worship!

Worship is one of the heartbeats of our church – it is the work of the whole church community in praising God, hearing God's word to us and responding in faith. One way to help each other in our worship is by reading scripture and other parts of our service. It enhances our experience of worship when we can have different faces and voices leading worship.

If you are willing to read in a worship service, please join our pool of readers! Learn more and sign up by clicking HERE.

Beware of Email Scams!

Scams come in many forms, whether it's someone impersonating a church leader, or a stranger seeming to have a good deal for you on a special product or service. Please be cautious when checking emails! Know that church staff will never ask you to purchase something or give personal information. Often you can identify an email's authenticity by verifying the sender’s email address (CUC staff emails end with @centralunionchurch.org), but it's also possible for scammers to mimic email addresses. So if you receive any strange message at all and are ever in doubt, just delete it, don't reply or click on any links. You may call the church office (808-941-0957) to confirm.
