‘Aha Pae‘āina THIS WEEK!

The ‘Aha Pae‘āina is the annual gathering of our wider church, the Hawai‘i Conference United Church of Christ. Delegates and visitors from our 100+ sister churches around the islands come together to worship, enjoy fellowship, share meals, learn, and do the business of our wider church.

Martha Balkin, Carol Egan, Ken Harding, John Steelquist, and Laura Steelquist will be the five delegates representing Central Union at the ‘Aha.

Portions of the ‘Aha will be live-streamed and recorded for all to view online. Visit to learn more. You can also volunteer at the ‘Aha and check it out in person!

Starting today, Thursday, June 13, through Saturday, June 15, Central Union will be hosting the 202nd ‘Aha Pae‘āina of the Hawai‘i Conference United Church of Christ (HCUCC).

Thanks to those who have already signed up to volunteer and have donated snacks! We are still in need of help to provide a warm welcome and hospitality to our guests. Here are some of the tasks:

  • Welcoming and providing directions to ‘Aha delegates and guests
  • Helping set up food and beverages for meals
  • Helping clean up after meals
  • Helping set out beverages and snacks
  • Donating snacks

Please sign up HERE if you are willing to volunteer for a shift(s)! If you have any questions, contact Natasha at Pastor Rushan’s office (808-440-3004 or

June is Gun Violence Awareness Month

June is Gun Violence Awareness Month. The color orange is used to honor survivors and show support for a future free from gun violence. Read more about the Wear Orange campaign.

REMINDER: At the 200th ‘Aha Pae‘āina of the Hawai‘i Conference UCC in 2022, Central Union put forth a resolution of witness which was affirmed by the delegates and calls our churches and members “to make their voices heard in the wider community” that “the time has come for us all to actively promote peace and engage in efforts to end gun violence.” It implored churches “to pray for peace and for an end to these horrific acts of violence, and to let our prayers move us to meaningful action.”

Click the button below to tell elected leaders they must ACT to end gun violence, made simple with the UCC's quick action tool:

  • Pray a blessing over the ‘Aha Pae‘āina. May God's presence be felt in all that happens and through all who gather to do the shared work of our Conference.

  • Give thanks for all those helping to provide hospitality and a warm welcome for our ‘Aha guests!

  • Pray for the students who will be starting the summer session at the preschool!

Readers Needed for Worship!

Worship is one of the heartbeats of our church – it is the work of the whole church community in praising God, hearing God's word to us and responding in faith. One way to help each other in our worship is by reading scripture and other parts of our service. It enhances our experience of worship when we can have different faces and voices leading worship.

If you are willing to read in a worship service, please join our pool of readers! Learn more and sign up by clicking HERE.

Beware of Email Scams!

Scams come in many forms, whether it's someone impersonating a church leader, or a stranger seeming to have a good deal for you on a special product or service. Please be cautious when checking emails! Know that church staff will never ask you to purchase something or give personal information. Often you can identify an email's authenticity by verifying the sender’s email address (CUC staff emails end with, but it's also possible for scammers to mimic email addresses. So if you receive any strange message at all and are ever in doubt, just delete it, don't reply or click on any links. You may call the church office (808-941-0957) to confirm.
