Baby chimpanzees meet first male

The four baby chimpanzees that were rescued from Southern Sudan are in the process of being integrated to  the main group at the sanctuary. A few days ago, they met the first male- Tumbo. 'Tumbo was welcomed by Cocoa, Medina and Mini. Sara first resisted but eventually calmed down,'says Assistant Sanctuary Manager, Phillip Sekulya.

The babies had earlier been fully integrated with all females. 'We hope to add Umutama- another adult male, to the group if Tumbo is fully accepted,' Phillip adds.

Farmers receive first payments - PES

The four year Payment for Ecosystem project that started in 2010 has made its first cash payments to 39 Private Forest Owners (PFOs) in Kyabigambire sub-county. This was done on 10th August at a ceremony presided over by the Local Council Chairperson.

'I am thrilled by this. This is going to attract more people to conserve the natural resources since there is a tangible benefit to do so,' said Lillian Tinkasimire, a PFO.

The cash distributed amounted to USD 2,180. PFOs from other sub-counties are to receive their payments in the subsequent days.

Holiday program; practical class for children

CSWCT engages school children in conservation activities with a purpose of raising a generation that is conscious of the need to conserve the environment. We therefore established Kyamaleera Wildlife Education Centre (KWEC) to promote the above

This holiday, with the help of volunteers and interns, we worked with children in Hoima District at KWEC. They were involved in forest walks to learn about the forest ecosystems, painting competitions, games, established a vegetable garden and drama that is to be staged for the community.
