CSUSB Palm Desert Campus Nursing Street Medicine Program receives generous donation from Kaiser Permanente

Kaiser Permanente has made a generous donation of $25,000 to the Cal State San Bernardino, Palm Desert Campus to support its Nursing Street Medicine Program, which provides free healthcare services to homeless, unsheltered and vulnerable people in the Coachella Valley, as well as engages CSUSB Palm Desert Campus nursing students at all degree levels in clinical healthcare activities.

Coachella Valley high school students compete for scholarships in 19th annual Academic WorldQuest competition at PDC

Nine Coachella Valley high schools competed in the 19th annual Academic WorldQuest competition at PDC. The event was facilitated and coordinated by Michael Karp, an assistant professor of history at the Palm Desert Campus. Scholarships were awarded to each student in the top three teams.

Join the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus

OLLI is a program designed for adults 50 and over who want to experience learning for the fun of it.

 

The program offers non-credit, university-level courses, but without the grades, tests or homework. Special seminars, lectures, educational excursions and social activities keep seasoned adults active and relevant.

Faculty Spotlight

PDC Communication Studies Professor Lacey Kendall has been hired as a contract employee for WNYC and The History Channel to oversee the engineering of interviews for a collaborative WNYC / History Channel series called, “Blindspot - Mourning In America” on New York Public Radio and podcast. The series focuses on the early days of the AIDS outbreak in New York and efforts to get the American government and insurance industries to respond to the need for services to people of color with AIDS in the 1970s. Professor Kendall has engineered California-based interviews for the series, including the first episode which can be heard on the WNYC Studios website.

Elias Hernandez Mancilla, College Corps program coordinator at PDC, received the "Future Is Ours" award at the OneFuture Coachella Valley "The Future Is Ours" Awards Celebration & Fundraiser.

Family Financial Wellness Fair


The CSUSB Office of Pre-College Programs invites all members of the community to its Family Financial Wellness Fair taking place at the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus on Saturday, March 16, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

 

The free event is designed to empower families with essential tools and information to enhance their financial well-being and will feature assistance with financial aid applications, special guests, activities for kids and a live broadcast by La Poderosa 96.7 FM.

 

There will be free food for the first 500 attendees, hourly opportunity drawings, a resource fair, and opportunities to participate in financial wellness workshops.

Special gala will benefit CSUSB Palm Desert Campus hospitality management program


Get ready to embark on a magical journey to the heart of Polynesia!


The CSUSB Palm Desert Campus will host the "Spirit of Polynesia" gala on April 27 to celebrate and support its hospitality management program.


Featuring classic Tiki cocktails and mocktails and native dishes influenced by Southeast Asia, Europe, and South America, guests will feel transported to Polynesia, a region known for its rich culture and warm hospitality.

PDC Career Showcase


The PDC Career Showcase brought together a diverse range of employers and talented students, and was a fantastic platform for networking, exploring career opportunities and gaining valuable insights into various industries. Our students showcased their skills and talents, making meaningful connections with top-notch companies and organizations looking for the next generation of talent. The diverse range of industries represented at the event truly reflects the vast potential awaiting our students in their future careers.


Cody's Closet was also at the event to assist students with their clothing needs. Cody’s Closet provides a FREE clothing resource for CSUSB students to access professional attire appropriate for career fairs, interviews, networking events and the workplace. Professional attire available includes suits, blazers, skirts, button-down shirts, ties and more. The aim is for students to feel confident and secure and they can select up to three items per semester.

Migrant Leadership Conference


In partnership with the Riverside County Office of Education, the CSUSB College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) hosted local families at the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus for the Migrant Leadership Conference. The conference included key topics that impact migrant families such as college financial resources, mental health and family engagement. 

Coachella Valley Firebirds Game


PDC Pride was in full effect when more than 300 Palm Desert Campus students, staff, faculty and alumni attended a Coachella Valley Firebirds hockey game at the Acrisure Arena. Before heading over to the arena dressed in CSUSB gear, attendees participated in a fun tailgate party at PDC with food, giveaways and an appearance by Cody the Coyote. The outing was a collaboration and co-sponsorship opportunity between Associated Students, Inc. (ASI), Recreation & Wellness and the Palm Desert Campus.
