RECOGNITION AND PUBLICATIONS

Kabria Baumgartner, Dean’s Associate Professor of History and Africana Studies and Associate Director of Public History, was honored as a recipient of the 2024 Black Excellence on the Hill Award at the Massachusetts State House for her public history and community-engaged work in Essex County. The annual event is hosted by the Massachusetts Black and Latino Legislative Caucus to honor and celebrate Black community leaders who are driving social change in their cities and towns across the state.

William Miles, Professor of Political Science, has published the article "Niger's Long Cycle of Poverty and Coups" in Current History.

Jennie Stephens, Dean's Professor of Sustainability Science and Policy, has published "Carbon collusion: Cooperation, competition, and climate obstruction in the global oil and gas extraction network" in Energy Policy.

The Department of Philosophy and Religion will host a roundtable to talk about the current state of critical theory with Robin Celikates (Freie Universität Berlin), prominent figure of the Frankfurt School of critical theory's fourth generation; Sally Haslanger (MIT), feminist philosopher who works at the intersection of analytic metaphysics, epistemology, and critical theory; and Patricia Williams, University Distinguished Professor of Law and Humanities, for a discussion.
