Safe Boating Campaign’s Annual National Safe Boating Week Celebrates All Boaters

May 18-24, 2024

For a number of reasons, Safe Boating is the only way to boat. The National Safe Boating Council has sent out a flyer to talk about the things that you can do to be prepared for another safe season of boating. It is an easy read, and you can find the full article HERE.

Sgt. Steve Dangler Retires from the MCSO River Patrol

A true friend of the boating community for so many years Steve "give me a hug" Dangler is retiring. His ability to relate to people, be someone who could be trusted to help out on many things all at the same time was amazing. We at CRYA will for sure miss his smile, and his willingness to help and give back to the community. MCSO has a Facebook page that does a great job of looking back at his career. You can find that HERE.

Thank you for your service!

Beacon Rock Docks Closed Until Further Notice!

If you haven't heard, the Beacon Rock Park docks were badly damaged by the winter Ice this year. At this point the docks are closed. They have the materials ready to go but are awaiting permits to begin the reconstruction process including new power pedestals. Their current plan is to get the pumpout station up and running as soon as possible so that boaters can still anchor out and have a way to empty their tanks. We have contacted all clubs that had scheduled cruises to this facility, but this will help to notify everyone that they are closed. We'll work on getting updates on the website soon of things we are all curious about.

Park Rangers supporting Government Island Ask for Cleanup Help

On a recent cruise to Bartlett Landing CRYA Vice President Bernie Bacon struck up a conversation with Park Rangers as they loaded up their Tractor Barge. As they talked, she mentioned her work with CRYA and if there were things the boating community could do to help on the Island. Ranger Cowan said they would really like to see cleanup help from the Schwitter Docks down to Commodores Cove. He said that area seems to be the worst and any help would be appreciated. As a former Boy Scout and Leader, my family has always worked to pick up trash on the beaches and parks that we frequented. If we all did that, we wouldn't have any trash to look at or pick up. So, please when you are cruising to the Government Island Docks help out if you can. A bag of garbage is not a lot to ask for that wonderful dock resource. Take pictures and we can highlight the effort in our Newsletter! Thanks in advance for helping to keep this resource a shining example of our NW waters.

Halibut Season is set and Open in Oregon and SW Washington

There are many updates and changes depending on which zone you might be fishing in. Be sure to check out the ODFW Website for current season updates and catch estimates. Central and Southern Coast Areas have a 2 fish per day limit so if you plan on chartering that might be of interest. Here is a link to the Season Map - Link

Content in your Club's Newsletters that all Boaters should read?

We can't see every club's internal communication, but we have to think some of the articles would be great information for all boaters. If you find that article of interest, please forward it to cryanews@gmail.com after getting approval to share. We can all be more informed.
