The 2021 CRYA Golf Tournament Results
And a HUGE Thank You to Sheffield Marine Propeller

Yes indeed, it was a rainy "night" leading up to our Tournament.......But, while we played the weather was more than cooperative! Fun was had by all and many met friends they haven't seen in years as well. A huge thank you as well to our Volunteers for the day who helped to man the contest holes, check everyone in, and help provide a lunch setup when we all completed our day. I was under the impression that there was a prize for highest score, but I was wrong. Our winning team and second place team for the day came from River City Boat Club. The winning team shot a 64 and was organized by Steve Cooper, and second place team shot 65 organized by Robert Cully. There was a tie for third at 66, and River City Boat Club once again with Nick Veroske's team and Multnomah Channel Yacht Club Team by Joe Aten.

But the real results were determined by all of our sponsors. The Tournament raised over $12K to be added to the general CRYA funds for projects and operations use. So, any ideas for future projects that support our boating community are always important to let us know.
Beaverton Sail and Power Squadron (Americas Boating Club) has many classes throughout the year and we will get that information onto our website as well as in Newsletters for updates. Available now:

The Beaverton Sail and Power Squadron is offering a course on CELESTIAL NAVIGATION. Virtual meeting will start Thursday October 14th, 2021, 07:00-09:00PM and will go for the next 8-9 weeks.
After Offshore Navigation, this course is the second part of the study of offshore navigation, further developing the student's understanding of CELESTIAL NAVIGATION theory. This Navigation course deals with learning celestial positioning using other bodies, in addition to positioning using the sun. This course also deals with electronic software tools that can be used to plan and execute an offshore voyage. There will be approx. 9 2-hour class sessions plus homework. Requirements for successful completion of the course includes two open-book exam elements and the Sight Folder prepared using live sight data. Both are graded by the National Offshore Navigation Committee.
Price of $150 includes book and material and exam.

Hayden Island/Portland Troubles

It is easy to be discouraged during these times but it is encouraging to hear that citizens are motivated to take action which can have impact! It was very clear from our opening board meeting for the 2021-2022 year that the crime issue is a political issue and that we need to let the decision makers know what is not working and what needs to be done.

Here’s what I have put together at this time. Do you have input or feedback? Do you know of experts/professionals who could help us with the talking points or strategy? Do you know someone who knows the mid year BMP process? We hope to develop “talking points” for everyone to use as an outline for their own voices and words to the City Commissioners and Mayor. Encourage everyone to be signed up for our email blasts by signing up at

Let City Hall know how you feel - Mid Year “Bump” budget correction opportunity
If you don’t like the level of crime and the level of security in our city last year, you won’t like the budget for the current year. But there is an opportunity for correction through the City Fall Budget Monitoring Process (BMP): FY 2021-22 Fall Budget Monitoring | The City of Portland, Oregon ( it should get updated soon with dates for the council hearings about this topic.
How to Communicate with City Council
*The deadline to sign up for a Communication spot is Tuesday at noon for the meeting the following week.
Upcoming City Council meetings are posted here: Council Agenda |
This is a link to the Fall Budget Monitoring Process (BMP): FY 2021-22 Fall Budget Monitoring | The City of Portland, Oregon ( and I anticipate it will get updated soon with dates for the council hearings about this topic.
Here is a link to all of the City Council members and Mayor if anyone wants to learn more about what they have going on or would like to contact them: City Government |
An uproar of concern should move the Commissioners and Mayor. It’s time they hear from the silent majority for the future. Take time now to write a short piece on providing the needed protection for our families and our properties, it is our city.

To New and Existing Christmas Ships Participants
I hope you’re all doing well. We had hoped by now we'd be back to a normal parade season. Unfortunately the pandemic is still upon us. However, we proved last year that we were able to parade and provide a safe entertainment option for everyone in our region. The overwhelming majority of spectators were being respectful of social distancing guidelines and we're confident they will again this year. We received an outpouring of thanks and appreciation for being on the water last year and giving people a few moments of "normal" as we paraded our area's waters. We can do it again this year and I'm certain it will be appreciated. Now that it’s officially Fall, it’s time to start thinking about signing up if you haven't already.
New Participants
To the new participants who've already signed up, welcome! We're glad to have you join us. All of us, no matter how many years we've been parading, have a role to play with recruiting new participants. If you know someone with a boat who isn’t already parading with us, urge them to give it a shot. Give them the opportunity to try out a new way to celebrate the holiday. We’re looking to you to help us ensure we have good numbers. If you have a candidate in mind, just send them our way. Have them email us ( and we can take it from there.
Fall Meetings
Our New Participants Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday October 20th at 7PM. The meeting will be virtual via Zoom. The main purpose of this meeting will be to provide an overview of our parade and how we operate on the water. It's also an opportunity for new participants to ask any questions they may have. As we've asked in previous years, existing participants are encouraged to attend and show support. That Zoom meeting information will be sent out closer to the meeting date.
Our mandatory General Participant Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday November 17th at 7PM. This meeting will be virtual via Zoom. We will send out more information about the November meeting closer to the date.
Participation Forms & Insurance Information
Even if you have paraded with us for 40+ years, we still need a participation form from you. These forms ensure we have your latest contact information as well as being the main way to let us know your moorage needs. The email address you put in your participation form is the address where we will send season information, so be sure to use a good email address that you check often.  As we did last year, we require a copy of your boat insurance declaration page. This is a requirement per our event insurance policy. Your declaration page can be sent to our Vice-President, Dave Kaiser. His email address is:
Every year we encourage you to sign up early. That is even more important this year since we need to be more accurate with our numbers given limited moorage. Please sign up as soon as you can! The online participation form can be found on our website. The direct link to the form is below for your convenience:
We look forward to having you parade with us this year. Take care!
