Committee & Working Group Recruitment

CRPO is recruiting for the following:

The DEI Working Group (DEI WG) represents a broad range of equity-deserving groups, as well as people who hold intersectional identities. Current recruitment efforts are focused on ensuring that the Working Group includes RPs who identify as members of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities, people with disabilities and 2SLGBTQIA+ community members.

  • 2 seats to fill vacancies on the Registration Committee to serve on an Indigenous Pathway application review panel

The Indigenous Registration Pathway is intended for applicants who have completed or substantially completed education and training in traditional Indigenous practices. The panel meets to review applications submitted through the pathway and the College is recruiting Indigenous RPs who have training, experience or expertise in Indigenous Traditional healing practices to lead this work.

The Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee (ICRC) panels screen concerns about registrants and decides how to deal with them. The Committee also sets College policy on the screening process. There is a need for Black RPs to consider matters that relate to issues of anti-Black racism and discriminative complaints that involve Black people in general.

Members of committees must also represent a range of psychotherapeutic practice modalities. CRPO has developed a Committee Composition Matrix to describe the needed mix of experience and skills each committee and working group needs to fulfill its mandate. The rationale for establishing a varied membership of practice area experience is to enhance the opportunity for a greater input from the diverse experiences of RPs that flow with these practice areas. This diversity also includes training and education experience outside of Ontario and Canada. The recruitment process will also closely consider intersectional identities.

Terms are typically one year in length and time commitments vary depending on the appointment.

  • the DEI WG meets virtually for half a day, once a month
  • the Indigenous Pathway Registration panel meets only when applications are received
  • the ICRC meets for a full day plenary once or twice a year and panels meet for half to a full day approximately every 6 weeks

Members are asked to commit to attending meetings (which are virtual) and to reviewing meeting materials beforehand.

Remuneration is paid at a rate of $280 per day for time spent in meetings and $280 per day preparing for meetings. Committee work can also count toward the biennial requirement for 40 hours of professional development.

To indicate your interest in an appointment, please complete the following survey: SURVEY LINK before October 31, 2023.

The College thanks any allies who would like to apply, but lived experience is required for the current vacancies. RPs who are not members of the equity-deserving communities described above should not apply.

2022-2023 Annual Report

CRPO’s 2022–2023 Annual Report is now available. The report reviews highlights from the past year, including ongoing work to review and modernize governance practices.

Guests in Sessions

A recurring theme CRPO encounters in practice advice queries and complaint investigations involves ‘guests’ accompanying a client in a therapy session. A guest could be a parent, friend, spouse or other loved one aside from the main client. When considering whether to include a guest at a client’s therapy session, RPs should consider the therapeutic benefits as well as the potential risks.
