Membership renewal is now open
|
|
Members intending to renew their membership with CRPO for the 2019-2020 year can now log in to their
member account
, click on the “Renewal” tab, and complete the process quickly and easily. For a quick overview of how the process works,
review the renewal page
or watch
this short video
. Renewals are due April 1 and payments need at least 3 days to process, so don’t delay.
You can see the exact amount owing by clicking on the invoice tab in your member account. Any credits owing from the past will be factored in to the renewal invoice, as well as HST, so be sure to review the full balance owed.
Members paying their renewal invoices must pay the total amount as partial payments are NOT accepted. Members who do not pay in full will be levied a $50
+HST fee for making multiple payments.
Do NOT send email transfers to CRPO. Payments must be made as a
bank to bank transfer.
To set up a bank-to-bank transfer:
- Find the code or name your bank uses for CRPO by referring to the drop down list found on any current invoice in your CRPO member account.
- In your online banking, add CRPO as a payee under “Bill Payment” by using the code or name you found in step 1.
- When asked for an account number, input the 8-character account number assigned to your online account with CRPO, (found at the top of your invoice tab) beginning with the letter “T,” followed by 7 numbers.
- Pay the full amount found in your invoice.
Your membership is considered renewed once the status indicator says “Fast Track” or “Completed” after being received. Members will not hear from CRPO unless there is an issue with your renewal.

Message from the Registrar
|
Last month, I was pleased to meet with representatives from a number of education programs whose graduates are seeking registration with the College. We had a fruitful discussion, covering issues such as clinical supervision, particularly as it relates to the controlled act of psychotherapy; the use of the Professional Practice & Jurisprudence e-Learning (JRP) Module; and results from the entry-to-practice registration examination. We also spent time meeting with programs that have been recognized by CRPO or are considering applying to undertake the recognition process.
When an education program receives recognition from CRPO, it is not an endorsement of the program. It’s also not a sign that CRPO is regulating or accrediting that program. Rather, an education program that has received recognition from CRPO is one that lets the program’s students or applicants know that the education requirements for CRPO registration will be met upon completion of the program.
Applicants from a recognized program can quickly complete the education section of the application without providing detailed information about their training. Applicants who apply for registration with CRPO who have gained their education through non-recognized programs must complete a
Mapping Tool for Individual Applicants
to demonstrate that their non-recognized program meets the requirements of the
Registration Regulation
and has provided them with the required entry-to-practice competencies.
The slide deck from the meeting is
posted here
. I look forward to continuing to build a relationship with all of the education programs, and welcome your feedback and ideas anytime.

Health Information Breaches
|
New rules under the
Personal Health Information Protection Act
(
PHIPA
) indicate that health information custodians, including psychotherapists, are required to report statistics relating to health privacy breaches annually to the office of the Privacy Commissioner.
The
online statistics submission website
is now open for you to submit your statistics for the 2018 reporting year. Psychotherapists that have experienced at least one health privacy breach during the 2018 reporting year—from January to December—are required by law to complete the online questionnaire. The deadline to submit is
Friday, March 1, 2019
. Health information custodians that have zero health privacy breaches to report for 2018 should not submit a statistical report.
To begin, send an email to
statistics.ipc@ipc.on.ca
including all of your contact information and you will be provided with a login ID. You will then be able to reset the password. The Commissioner has also produced a
frequently asked questions
document you may find helpful.

Education Program Recognized
|
The
Toronto Institute for Contemporary Psychoanalysis – Diploma in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
is the latest education program to receive recognition from CRPO. This means that the program sufficiently enables students to develop the required competencies for entry-to-practice in psychotherapy.
Visit our website
for more information about the recognition process, or to review the other recognized programs.

Poll on Friendships Post-Termination
|
CRPO has produced a number of documents in relation to preventing the sexual abuse of clients, including
developing a policy
and a proposed
regulation
around not engaging in sexual contact with a client for five years post-termination, as well as
consulting the public
on the definition of “client” in relation to sexual abuse provisions.
We want to know if CRPO members have thought about the matter of psychotherapists entering into platonic friendships with former clients. In looking at complaints trends, inquiries to our Practice Advisory services and the approach of other regulators, the College is considering developing a resource on this topic. We would like some feedback about the standard of care that currently exists, and general impressions within the profession; please
