People with Disabilities Make Strides in Employment,

but Environmental and Attitudinal Barriers Remain

A large-scale survey of people with physical disabilities conducted by researchers at the Center for Rehabilitation Outcomes Research (CROR) found that a large majority were able to return to work and almost half of them retained their jobs for four years or longer. However, the study also found that environmental and attitudinal barriers remain.

Rehabilitation Measures Database Update

The Rehabilitation Measures Database (RMD) now has 574 summarized rehabilitation measures, 41 of which are related to employment.


Six measurement tools will be submitted shortly to the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation: The 6 Minute Walk Test; the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure; the Contextual Memory Test; the Lower Extremity Functional Scale; the Modified Ashworth Scale and the Quick Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand.


A medical extern has been working with the RMD team this summer. Damyan Farion is a student at Midwestern University in Arizona. He has been writing a new summary of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Patient Assessment Instrument (IRF-PAI) Section GG on self-care and mobility. He will be submitting a measurement tool on the IRF-PAI to Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
