May 2021 Issue

Friends,
Welcome to May! Is it just me, or do you find yourself sighing in relief more than usual?

Sighs of relief for:
  • In person graduations for high schools and colleges. Some universities have even allowed their 2020 graduates to have the commencement ceremonies that were cancelled last year.
  • Friends planning weddings with less concern about cancellation and postponement.
  • The beauty of the azaleas this Spring. I don't remember the colors in past years being quite this spectacular.
  • Reunions with friends and family we haven't seen in too long. I made a quick trip to Illinois and got to give my mom an in-person hug for the first time in over a year.
  • In person social gatherings with friends. Book club is simply better in person without a mask.
We collectively breathed in a sigh of relief with old friends and new at our Closing Luncheon on Friday, May 7. We recognized our leaders-new, returning, and those taking a break. Check out our photos on Facebook or click here.

Speaking of sighs of relief ...

Each year, our treasurer, along with our CPA firm, prepares and files mandatory tax returns with the Internal Revenue Service ("IRS") each year. Back in September, we were notified by the IRS that they selected our calendar 2018 tax return for audit.

Since September, we have received 3 different requests for information, submitted copies of over 300 pages of records, newsletters, meeting minutes, and bank statements, as well as answered hundreds of questions.

On April 15, I sighed in relief when we were notified the audit was complete and that CPWC continues to qualify for exemption from federal income tax.
After this newsletter, we'll have our annual quiet period without newsletters until July 1. Thank you all for a wonderful, flexible, creative year of activities. Look forward to getting caught up after summer.

Your Co-Presidents,

Jean Ann and Chris

Thank you to all the residents who have paid their CPCA dues.  We appreciate your quick responses to our notice.  Thank you to the current treasurer, Doug Krueger, for setting up an easy online payment method for our homeowners.  Please pay your dues if you have not done so as there are many expenses to be met (see below for the link).

CPCA will be planting flowers at the two main entrances on Paper Mill Road in April.  We hope all of you will enjoy the welcome as you enter the neighborhood. In addition, CPCA has been busy pruning and cleaning our thirteen islands throughout the neighborhood to welcome the spring season.

Thank you for your consideration and generosity.
