Webinar Announcement

Addressing research-related stigma to improve quality of care for pregnant and parenting people affected by SUD

This webinar will examine features of research dissemination that may generate or uphold stigmatization and review stigma reduction practices that can increase uptake of evidence-based treatment programs and prevent potential harm related to substance use in pregnant and parenting people.

We will examine the need to identify internalized stereotypes, transdisciplinary collaboration with researchers who have lived experience, community-based approaches, reducing stigmatizing language, contextualizing findings, and advocating for stigma-reducing policies.

Speaker Biography

Megan Lipsett, MA, PhDc, is a doctoral candidate in Social Psychology at the University of Oregon and a predoctoral research fellow of Clinical and Translational Research at Oregon Health Science University’s School of Medicine. Her research focuses on complimentary and integrative health approaches to prevent chronic illness and co-morbid psychosocial distress in populations who face disproportionately high psychosocial stress (e.g. stigamtized populations).

She explores how contextual social and environmental factors, including socialized beliefs, influence psychological well-being and health. She aims to contribute to translational research that identifies biopsychosocial factors of stress resilience and ultimately impacts policy and social change.
