Citizens of Mesquite,

I want to thank you for signing up for my newsletter whereby I will keep you informed on important information in the city.

I am your representative on the Southern Nevada Health District and I want to assure you that we take the well-being of our community seriously.

The highly contagious Delta variant of COVID-19 has forced us to adjust. Masks in indoor public settings have been mandated for Clark County and we are encouraged to practice social distancing and frequent hand washing to help mitigate its spread.
COVID -19 Vaccinations are available at our local pharmacies - Walgreen's, Walmart and Smith's. Check each location whether you can walk in or if you need an appointment. Questions are being asked about obtaining a booster. We are waiting for further guidance from the Center for Disease Control before a community vaccination plan is implemented.
In Mesquite, ages 50+ show close to a 70% vaccination rate, but pockets of younger people and certain businesses are showing a vaccination rate of 25% to 40%. The unvaccinated tourists and visitors keep our rate of transmission higher than we'd like, so it is crucial that we encourage unvaccinated people to protect themselves and others from serious illness by getting vaccinated. In the meantime, we must observe the protocols of masking, hand sanitizing and social distancing.
