In the Governor's daily briefing he provided updates on the status of the State's efforts to obtain much needed personal protective equipment (PPE). The Federal Government through the Strategic National Stockpile has sent over 367,795 masks, 1,141,000 surgical masks, 693,000 gloves, 174,000 face shields, 142,000 surgical gowns and 4,000 coveralls. This is a fraction of what the administration has requested and what is also needed. The Governor reported that the State's 10-day PPE burn rate is just under 1.5 million N95 masks, 25 million gloves, 4.4 million gowns and 700,000 surgical masks, these numbers only reflect distribution of PPE to our hospitals, long term care facilities, law enforcement, first responders and essential State workers.
The State continues its effort to meet these needs by working with private sector companies such as General Motors and Ford Motors in creating agreements for other much needed items such as ventilators. While there is no order to wear a mask the Governor is encouraging individuals that do go out to make essential purchases or report to their essential jobs to wear masks. He also advised that when the weather warms up individuals need to abide by the stay at home order and maintain social distancing efforts while going out for walks.
