Next NSENG meeting is Mon Mar 16th, 6:15-8:30pm at National Louis University , 5202 Old Orchard Rd - 3rd floor in Skokie, featuring a keynote speaker on "HOW IMPROV CAN IMPROVE YOUR JOB SEARCH" plus networking.
On the surface, improv is known for its entertainment value to make people laugh. But it can also be a powerful communication tool in many aspects of a job search.  Richard Oberbruner , a  SECOND CITY  Training Center graduate, will lead a highly interactive session that will put you in situations where thinking with a different attitude can produce surprising results. Experience the power of improv for yourself and gain new communication techniques that you can use when networking or interviewing with a prospective employer. During his presentation Richard will address:
  • How a sense of humor and quick wit can make you a preferred candidate.
  • Warm-up exercises to use before a networking meeting or interview.
  • How to address the question... "Tell me about yourself".
  • Techniques for phone screens, Skype and face-to-face job interviews.
  • 4 different ways to answer any question you're asked.
  • Learn the difference between "Yes and" & "No but" attitudes and how each can be persuasively used in conversations.

Here's a bit of background about Richard
Richard Oberbruner has successfully assisted thousands of job seekers as a career coach at Worknet DuPage, Harper College and the Community Career Center. He has also conducted improv workshops for many professional associations across the country. And, as you can imagine, Richard teaches individuals on how a sense of humor and quick wit that can help individuals make themselves more " memorable and likable "... two of the most important ingredients to becoming a preferred candidate.
