This Sunday is the Solemnity of Corpus Christi (the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ)

As we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Precious Body and Blood of Christ this weekend, let’s thank the Lord for this beautiful Sacrament, which brings us amazing joy, consolation and healing- and brings us together as God's family! At this time, we thank Him for calling our parish community back into full communion. Beginning this Sunday, Cardinal Tobin has lifted the temporary Covid dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass in person (except in cases of illness or unavoidable circumstances). What a time to celebrate not only the Body & Blood of Jesus but also that truly we are the Body of Christ! Let us all worship Jesus, so alive and truly present in the most holy Eucharist!

Holy Mass is at 10am & Holy Hour at 9am

Following Mass, we will have our Corpus Christi Procession around our neighborhood, announcing to all that God is with us. Please wear comfortable shoes and sun protection.

Today! First Friday Mass in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

We have 2 Masses today, both in the rectory chapel:
  • 12pm (in person, NO live-stream)
  • 7:30pm (in person, with live-stream)
 
After our 7:30pm First Friday Mass, we will proceed to the Eucharistic Vigil of the Alliance of Two Hearts (Communion of Reparation) from 9pm- 12 Midnight ( every First Friday)
Confessions will be available during that time.

The Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is next week, Friday, June 11.
We will have 2 Masses: 12 Noon & 7:30pm .

Then the following day, Saturday, June 11 is the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Our Mass will be at 12 noon.

ALLIANCE OF TWO HEARTS EUCHARISTIC VIGIL-
COMMUNION OF REPARATION
 
After our First Friday Mass, we will proceed to the Eucharistic vigil of the Alliance of Two Hearts (Communion of Reparation).
 
This will from 9pm- 12 Midnight every First Friday (shortened hours) in person in the Rectory Chapel.
 
Everyone is welcome to join us for the vigil. We will pray the beautiful prayers to the Sacred Heart of Jesus & Immaculate Heart of Mary, in particular the Nine Offices of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
 
We will attempt to put this on Zoom at 9pm.

The Solemnity of Corpus Christi ( the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ) is an occasion every year to remember especially what a great gift Jesus has given us in the Holy Eucharist – the abiding sign of His Redemption and Presence among us.

On this joyful day, we welcome everyone back to in-person attendance at Mass.

Jesus assures us that He will abide with us "until the end of the age." Welcoming Jesus in the Eucharist back into the center of our parish family life gives us the confidence to know that we also remain with Him.

Feast of Corpus Christi 2021
"My flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him."

The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, also known as the Feast of Corpus Christi, is a celebration of the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. On this day, we recall the institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper. 

In the United States, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ is celebrated on the Sunday after Trinity Sunday, rather than on the Thursday. This year, it is on Sunday, June 6.
While the Last Supper is also commemorated on Holy Thursday, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ focuses solely on the gift of the Eucharist. The mood is also more joyous than that felt on Holy Thursday, the day before Christ's passion and death.

The origins of the Feast of Corpus Christi date back to the 13th century and to a nun from Belgium, Sister Juliana of Mont Cornillion. From an early age, she had a great love for the Blessed Sacrament and believed a special feast should be held in its honor. She is said to have had a vision of the Church as a full moon with a dark spot, symbolizing the absence of the feast. She took her cause to Church leaders including the Bishop of Liege and the Archdeacon of the Cathedral of Liege, both of whom became convinced. The bishop began celebrating the feast in his diocese. The archdeacon would go on to become Pope Urban IV, and in 1254, he issued a papal bull establishing the feast for the universal Church, placing it on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday. Unfortunately, Pope Urban died just one month later, and the feast would not become more widely celebrated until the 14th century.

The feast is often marked by Eucharistic processions, during which the Blessed Sacrament is carried in a monstrance through the church and into the streets. Many also spend time in Eucharistic Adoration on the solemnity.
