Hello, Bailey-

Christmas Eve is just over one week away! It falls on a Sunday this year, so we have morning and evening worship. At 10am, we have a Christmas pageant, with lots of kids involved. At 6pm and 8pm, we’ll have Christmas Eve worship, singing “Silent Night” with our candles.

This is a great time to invite a friend to church! People are most receptive to invitations on Christmas Eve. We have little postcards at church which you can share, or just save and share the graphic above and with key holiday dates on the back.

Our second celebration is on Sunday, December 31, when Rev. Jess Scholten will preach. She is the candidate for the Associate Pastor for Mission, Spiritual Growth, and Care. We have a congregational meeting following worship to consider calling her to this position.

I am excited about the possibilities with Jess on staff. She has lots of energy, wisdom, compassion, and faith. (Note: we have a single service at 10am on Dec 31.) We emailed out info yesterday, and a hard copy letter also went in the mail. Click on her photo to read more.

Our third celebration is my birthday party! On January 3, I turn 60. On Sunday January 7 at noon, I hope you’ll come to my Birthday Fiesta. We will have Mexican food from El Pastor Restaurant, purchased by me and my wife Chris. To help us plan the right amount of food, please sign up by clicking on the graphic, or contacting the church office.

We’re asking anyone who comes to contribute 60 cents (because it's my 60th birthday....), and all funds will go to the River Food Pantry, to help feed hungry people in our community. I’ve been a volunteer delivery driver at the River for two years, and I’m very impressed with the organization. I want to celebrate and share at the same time.

The gospel of Luke tells us that when Jesus was born, the angel said “I bring you good news of great joy for all the people.” We are people of good news, so it seems appropriate to have some joyful celebrations!
