"Today is the day the Lord has made,

let us rejoice and be glad in it."

Psalm 118:24

Hello Bailey-

I've been lucky enough to be involved in lots of rejoicing and celebrating lately.

Last Sunday after worship, we had a wonderful picnic with great food and fun games. Click on the photo to see more, including the all-church photo from the front steps!

On Tuesday, we had a Pen Pal Party at Glenn Stephens. Over the past year, dozens of Covenant people have been writing back and forth with fifth graders. We got to meet face to face and wish them well. I was really glad to meet my penpals.

Last Saturday, I was involved in the joyful ordination of Ellen Keyser Endelman, the new pastor at First Presbyterian Church of Lodi. Click on the photo to see more.

In our home, we also experienced some joy. My wife had shoulder surgery last Thursday (which was NOT joyful, but she is progressing in her rehab). The joy came from wonderful Covenant members who shared food with us—beef noodle casserole, salad, fixings for sandwiches, fruit, and wonderful desserts.

In these challenging days, we need to celebrate all that we can, we need to avoid negativity as much as possible, and we need to bring joy wherever we can. Thanks be to God for the joyful community of Covenant Presbyterian Church!

On the journey together,

Charlie

PS--After seeing how many Covenant t-shirts we sold last week, I got thinking... If you travel this summer, take a photo to share with your church family. Bonus points if you have a Covenant t-shirt on in the photo! (We have more for sale; contact the church office.) Next week, we’ll have a bulletin board display and an online photo album. If you want a Covenant t-shirt, we have some left in the office. From all the photos submitted with Covenant t-shirts, we will pick a name at random, to win a prize from Guatemala.

More importantly, as you travel, be prayerful and be open to how God might call you to be an instrument of hope, or joy, or reconciliation wherever you are!

During the summer on Sundays, we will have an arts or crafts display in the gathering space, all original art made by Covenant members. Sunday’s artist is Jan Minardi. Jan has been making “almost-origami” boxes for about 15 years. They are simple to make with paper, a pencil, ruler, scissors, and your hands. The paper can be from recycled greeting cards, calendar pages, posters, brochures, or craft paper. The resulting square box, as small as one inch or as big as 7 inches, can contain a piece of candy, a toy, or other gift. Stop by to see how they are made. Jan will provide some materials for you to try your hand at making one! If you want your art featured on a Sunday this summer, you can sign up here.

Vacation Bible Camp is here at Covenant next week! We are excited to be hosting alongside Bethany Methodist and Madison Mennonite Church for this VBC all about WATER in the Bible.

Over the four days, the kids will be learning four Bible stories about water, and we've prepared a four-day devotional so we adults can learn do. Get your copy here or pick up a hard copy at church. Vacation Bible Camp WATER devotional

VBC is designed for children in preschool through 5th grade. Visit covenantmadison.org/vbc to learn more. On Sunday, June 18, the VBC kids and staff will share stories and sing songs from the wonderful week!

Summer Family Reunions Redefined

"As a church family we have that glorious spiritual connection God has given us. We walk through life together encouraging, supporting, and praying for each other."

Did you know Donna Monson is back on staff here at Covenant? She writes this week's Midweek Musings. Be sure the throw in a hello in the comments!

On Pentecost (May 28), we began collecting the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Pentecost Offering. To date, we have received $2,214. This national offering exists to support and inspire youth. 40% of the total amount collected will go to support Free Bikes 4 Kidz Madison. FB4K refurbishes used bikes and distributes them to schools or other local agencies. We will accept donations through Monday (6/12). Visit covenantmadison.org/pcusaoffering to learn more or to give.

This week we celebrate the baptism of Liliana June Hinojosa, daughter of Miko Hinojosa and Emily Schroeder.

This week's white rose commemorates the life of H.D. Girard, grandfather of Eric Girard.

New this week: Jan Mohs, mother of Kathy Mohs; William Lape, friend of Peter and Nancy Gunder.

Loving God, in your mercy hear our prayers for each of these your children. We pray for healing, for courage, and for peace, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
