Advocacy April Ambassadorship

This month, COABE celebrates Advocacy April. Educators, program and state leaders, and adult learners across the country share why adult education is important. What are some ways that you can get involved in Advocacy April?

Our country’s leaders want to hear from you. You have experiences and opinions that will shape the future of adult education. Let’s bring our voices together this April!

Shout Out Your Success

Danielle Gillens struggled with drug use, incarceration, housing insecurity, and depression for years. It wasn't until she discovered the adult education program at Guilford Technical Community College that Danielle had the means to lead the life of fulfillment and purpose she had always longed for. Read Danielle's story.

COABE’s Advocast Podcast

In every episode of the COABE Advocast podcast an adult learner shares their story. This episode features Gaelle Petit Homme. Learn a bit about Gaelle below and listen to the episode to hear the rest of her story:

Gaelle Petit Homme grew up in Haiti and left due to the violence. Her family helped her make a home in Atlanta, Georgia. Gaelle speaks four languages and learned to speak English from watching “I Love Lucy” and other TV shows. Gaelle got her GED® credential from the Atlanta Public Schools Adult Education Program. There were many times when Gaelle wanted to give up on classes, but she stuck it out and passed her GED® exam. Currently in nursing school, Gaelle is well on her way to fulfilling her dream of becoming a nurse and helping people. Her goal is to inspire people around the world to let them know it’s never too late to get your education.
