Update on Retail Theft Bill

As you all know, when Prop 47 was implemented, we saw a massive increase in retail theft statewide to the point where groups of thieves walked into stores in broad daylight, helped themselves to merchandise and walked out and then sold products online with no repercussions. The impact on retail businesses was disastrous! A number of bills have been introduced to reverse the impact of Prop 47 and several have been passed. Please see below to read the full article.

We still need to pass Prop 36 which will be on the November 2024 ballet. Pass the Word!!!

Retail Theft Bill Package Signed Into Law

BOMA California has advocated in support of the package of 10 bills introduced by legislative leaders and signed into law by Governor Newsom late last week as it will help protect businesses, enhance public safety, and promote a thriving commercial sector.

The package includes new laws that crack down on shoplifting, theft from a vehicle, organized theft, and online marketplaces where these stolen goods are sometimes resold. While the passage of this legislative package marks significant progress, it doesn't fix the problem created with Proposition 47, thus the need to also pass Proposition 36 on the November 2024 ballot. However, we applaud the Governor and Legislature for their efforts to address this critical problem impacting our state.
