Kids FUNd Grantees Announced

Central Kansas Community Foundation (CKCF) is pleased to announce the 2023 Kids FUNd grantees which are funded from proceeds from the L. Marie Haun Charitable Fund for Children.

Since 2005, the Kids FUNd has been supporting local projects and programs serving kids. Originally, this fund was supported by the Sand Creek Station Pro/Am Golf Tournament and private donations. After 2012, the Pro/Am Tournament completed their support of the fund and the Haun Charitable Fund was started as a means of continuing the provision of making grants to charities that serve children. The L. Marie Haun Charitable Fund for Children has awarded nearly $250,000 since 2013 to organizations who have interest in children’s behavioral research, child welfare, teaching parent skills, and/or strengthening families.

Financial Partner Gathering Recap

On April 13, 2023, NetWork Kansas and CKCF joined together to host a Financial Partner Gathering event in El Dorado at the Train Depot.

Steve Radley, CEO of Network Kansas, shared a tax credit opportunity with CKCF and its affiliates, which offers a 30% partner grant opportunity to the respective foundation that coordinates a tax gift through this opportunity. Radley shared that there is a 75% Tax Credit opportunity through Network Kansas. An individual or company may participate with a minimum donation of $250 on a first come, first served basis, up to $133.333. For example, $1,000 Tax Credit donation would credit $750 against the donor’s State tax liability and $300 would be donated back to CKCF or an affiliate.

In addition to the tax credit opportunity, Radley spoke about their GROW Kansas Loans and then Angie Tatro, CEO of CKCF, provided more details about Impact Investing Program and a few other details about the regional foundations and how they are here to serve charitable needs and dreams of donors.

‘Tis the season: Why tax time is often the best time to get serious about your charitable plans

Though often unappreciated, the annual passage of tax season has benefits.

For one, it offers some finality to the prior year in that we finally know if we owe or are due a refund. For example, for the 2021 tax year, the IRS processed 88 million refunds averaging $3,039 each. Simultaneously, filing a 2022 tax return often comes with finalizing quarterly tax estimates for 2023, which many people use to build a framework for current-year spending.

Fortunately, charitable giving ranks high on many “how to use your refund” lists. Whether you have “bonus” money in the form of a refund or gain some peace of mind by knowing your upcoming tax obligations, giving intentionally and strategically always helps that gift go further.

Unfortunately, though, strategic and intentional giving may get lost when gifts to charity are made through a quickly mailed check or an online payment in response to a phone solicitation, television ad, mailer or online advertisement. The community foundation, however, offers remedies for this!  {Continue Reading on the CKCF Website}
