CANTON:
HIDDEN GEM FULL OF FLEA MARKET TREASURES

|
Canton's location between DFW and the heart of East Texas makes it a prime location for festivals that harken to Texas culture. The city hosts the Van Zandt County Fair and Rodeo each year, as well as the Annual Bluegrass Festival.
The city also benefits from a growing economy, supported by diverse industries such as agriculture and manufacturing, in addition to the tourism from the First Monday Trade Days.
With its small-town charm, low cost of living, and a strong sense of community, Canton offers an attractive quality of life for residents. This can translate into stable property values and steady rental demand.

CANTON:
HISTORIC TOWN DATES BACK TO 1850s
| |
|
Created by Miscalculation |
Although Canton was not incorporated until 1919, the city was laid out decades earlier when Van Zandt County needed to move its seat closer to its geographical center.
Canton was chosen as the location for county offices, but the surveyor accidentally declared the town limits approximately 2.5 miles away from where the people of Canton lived. Since then, the city has expanded to include that original spot.

The Dixie House & Miss Mamie |
One of the landmarks in Canton was the Dixie Hotel which was built around 1915. The three-story hotel had some of the best food and lodging in the area. Among some of the most notable guests during the years were Senator Lyndon B. Johnson and Bonnie and Clyde.
Miss Mamie Maume owned the hotel for approximately forty years. Miss Maume sat at her roll-top desk in the hall to take money for the meals.
