Dear CHT Member,

It’s that time of year, where we gather with family and friends this holiday season. It’s especially a good time of year to give thanks, to remember the challenges of the past year and to be hopeful about the future.

It’s not been easy for so many people, especially when having a home is so essential to safety, health, and stability. Many don’t have a home, while others struggle to pay rent, and still more find homeownership out of reach.

It's also the time of year that we ask the community to give to CHT. Your support is always appreciated throughout the year, which is why we're asking people to help with a monthly donation - and when you do, NorthCountry Federal Credit Union will make a $50 gift to CHT!

Thanks to your support, we remain committed to our mission of creating permanent affordable housing. Our goal over the next few years is to create more than 500 new apartments and homes. While this ambitious goal won't fix everything, it will help many in our community. With a recent grant from NeighborWorks America, and support from New England Federal Credit Union, we are gearing up to create hundreds of new homeownership opportunities through our Shared Equity Program creating a legacy for these homeowners while also sharing it with the next homeowner. Once again: ambitious, but doable.

As I've said before, there may be funds available if you are struggling to pay rent, mortgage, or bills. We encourage you to click here to learn about financial assistance that can help.

Please stay safe this holiday season.
Michael Monte, CEO
"It's Ours, It's Really Ours."
Last year CHT transformed a former motel in Essex Junction, into 68 permanently affordable homes for people coming out of homelessness. Hear from residents Matt and Kasey, who've found stability for themselves and their newborn son Devin, since moving into Susan's Place.

Swanton School Senior Housing
Six new apartments for seniors are nearing completion in Swanton after a month of renovation work on the site of the old Swanton School on Church Street. The school already is home to 16 apartments, providing quality affordable housing for seniors or people living with a disability in Franklin County.

We're looking forward to people moving in this winter!
Julie Curtin, Director of Homeownership
This month, Julie Curtin joined CHT as Director of Homeownership. Please join us in welcoming her!

Julie was recently the Chief Operating Officer and interim Chief Executive Officer of Downstreet Housing and Community Development in Barre. Prior to that, Julie was Director of Legal Services at the Vermont Land Trust and she has held roles with Legal Aid of Los Angeles and the Nature Conservancy.

“I am passionate about permanently affordable housing, and in particular, the community land trust (CLT) model," Julie wrote in her cover letter.

She also said, "CHT's new program to address systemic racism by increasing homeownership opportunities for people of color has the potential to make a meaningful impact. For years I have engaged in racial equity initiatives, and I am eager to put my experience into action."

We are excited Julie is part of the CHT team.
BECOME A MONTHLY SUSTAINER AND...
EARN CHT AN EXTRA $50!
Monthly giving helps CHT provide affordable homes and link community resources to residents. Think of a recurring monthly gift as a little extra rent or mortgage payment so CHT can help those struggling to meet their monthly bills

As inspiration — or motivation — this month NorthCountry Federal Credit Union will make a $50 gift to CHT for anyone who signs up as a monthly donor.

Thanks for your support. CHT and monthly donors, together with NorthCountry FCU, are giving a helping hand to neighbors who need it.
