CHS International Baccalaureate students

job shadow at Mercy 🏥

"I learn so much more than if I was only in a classroom. Here, I can see health care up close."

In Mara Vaile’s Project Lead the Way Biomedical Innovation class, Central’s Career Programme and Diploma Programme learn together, with differing goals for their potential path after graduation. But regardless if they’re earning an IB Diploma or already working in healthcare, Central students are job shadowing at Mercy Hospital one day a week.

SPS United: Kate Marble, teacher at AgAcademy.

"A lot of our students come to the AgAcademy with an idea of what they believe agriculture to be: a farmer, in a field, with a cow. Our goal is to broaden their beliefs by providing students a variety of experiences within the different lenses of agriculture that provide them life-long skills they can embrace in their own lives.

Hydroponics, composting, small animal/reptile husbandry, plant maintenance and sales, greenhouse operations, volunteer work, egg production, small scale construction, and basic kitchen skills, including easy recipes, are just a few of those. From growing a tomato plant on their apartment deck, to creating a simple meal for their family using items in their pantry, students leave AgAcademy with the knowledge that ag is included in all aspects of their life and they have the opportunity to use these concepts to positively impact themselves and those around them."
