Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church is a congregation that
values a diversity of belief. Whether you're full of faith or full of doubt,
you'll find people who have been there and accept you for where you are.

We welcome all people to worship, pray, eat, seek spiritual answers and enjoy life within this community of faith. All are welcome!

Church Field Trip to Brights Zoo

Members of the church will be taking a field trip to Brights Zoo this Saturday, September 23, to see a very special gift of God's creation. On July 31 of this year, the rarest living giraffe on the planet was born at Brights Zoo, which is just down the road from us in Limestone, TN. She’s a one-of-a-kind animal, because she was born without a pattern! So we are going to go and see this special giraffe!

It's not too late to participate! The bus leaves at 9am on Saturday and tickets may still be purchased at the zoo. Please contact Gretchen Bentley or Brenda Hutchins if you wish to join.

Dont forget, all are welcome to share the Peace of Christ in the Parlor with coffee and fellowship before worship, beginning at 9:30am.

Sunday's Scripture (NRSV):

Last Call for September Supper

CHPC's September Suppers and James Bible Study concludes this Sunday night from 5-6:30 pm. All are welcome to participate in this intergenerational gathering and it's never too late to participate! This Sunday's meal is a simple potluck, so please come with your favorite dish to share. The children will enjoy a final night of fun, music, and learning while the youth and adults discuss chapters 4 and 5 of the Book of James.

It has been such a joy to come together as a church family to break bread and study God's Word. Thank you for supporting this intentional time of congregational fellowship as we learn from scripture and one another!

September Session Summary

Your Session convened on Monday evening, September 18 for its monthly meeting. Items of interest included approval on a second reading of an updated CHPC Funeral Policy. A copy of this policy is available in the office and will soon be posted on our updated website. As our congregation continues to grow, look for a small expansion to the children’s area in the rear of the sanctuary. The next Stated Session meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 16 at 6:00 pm.

News from the Pews!

Exciting things happening within our church family! Occasionally, we wish to share some good news in a recurring section of our weekly newsletter, News from the Pews!

Doug and Karen Bennett (choir members) are newly married. Lauren and Jess Williams (new members) and Blakey Burger (praise band member) are expecting babies in the next few weeks; Mark and Karen Bland welcomed two grandchildren (Payton Marie Conley and Cooper James Canoles) this month; and last but not least, TJ Chase, long time child of our church and children’s church leader is getting married in November. Let’s show all these friends some love and wish them all well as they experience and look forward to these exciting changes in their lives!

A Note of Thanks:

To my Church family,

Over the past month I have been blessed to have members of our church helping to care for me as I recover from knee replacement surgery. Your calls, meals, and care and concern are helping me to achieve a rapid recovery. I would like to especially recognize three angels on earth who stayed with me constantly during my first ten days of recovery. Thank you, Al Doty, Arnold Sexton, and Jonathan Hutchins! You were my rocks during the hard times!

I am honored and humbled by love. God Bless You all!

World Communion Sunday October 1

The Pumpkin Patch at CHPC

Plans are underway as the Pumpkin Patch is set to return to CHPC from October 1 through 31. This year we have two unload days scheduled on the calendar and the first opportunity to volunteer will be on September 30 at 9am. All helping hands are needed to get these gourds grounded after being delivered from New Mexico. The patch will be open daily from 11am to 7pm, seven days a week. Volunteers are needed to serve in two-hour time slots to work the patch and sell pumpkins all month long!

A special survey was emailed to the congregation on Tuesday, September 19 so that you can let us know how you are able to serve during this month-long mission. Thank you for taking the time to complete it! Physical copies are available in the Narthex and a link is below for anyone that would like to fill it in now. Thank you for helping us create this fun-filled time of fellowship for our community as our church family strives to serve others. See you in the patch soon!
