Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church is a congregation that

values a diversity of belief. Whether you're full of faith or full of doubt,

you'll find people who have been there and accept you for where you are.

We welcome all people to worship, pray, eat, seek spiritual answers,

and enjoy life within this community of faith. All are welcome!

Thank You for Supporting

Second Harvest Food Bank!

It has been so wonderful to see the quick outpouring of support from CHPC to serve in fulfilling a missional need in out community! Throughout this week, members of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church have gathered to lend a helping hand to Second Harvest by supplying and packing food for one of their non-profit partners, Girls Inc. of Johnson City. Together volunteers have made 100 bag lunches a day to support these 100 young women. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for leaping at the opportunity to share Christ's love in this simple, yet meaningful, way.

This Sunday in Worship:

June 16, 2024 - Fourth Sunday After Pentecost

Our Summer Sermon Series continues this Sunday as we accompany Jesus throughout the region of Galilee. That is where Mark's Gospel begins and it is where we are told that his followers will see Jesus again after the resurrection. This week's passage is a familiar story about a seed that grows to an impossible size. Come and see how God may be planting something in your life that can grow with God's help into something more than you could have imagined!

Sunday's Scripture:

Ezekiel 17:22-24, NRSV

Mark 4:26-34, NRSV

Sermon Title:

"The Harvest Has Come"

A Musical Note...

Welcoming a New Choral Director!

It is with great joy that I share the good news that your Session has acted upon the unanimous recommendation of the Choral Director Search Committee to hire Emily Broadhead as CHPC's next Choral Director! Many of you will recognize Emily from the various ways she has previously participated in worship and from how engaged she and her family are in the life of our church. I have been amazed to see how God is moving in Emily's life at this time and am so grateful that she has felt called to serve in this meaningful way.

Emily will begin her new role in mid July before our dear friend Carolyn Barry retires at the end of the same month. Please go ahead and mark Sunday, August 11 on your calendars as we will celebrate Carolyn's ministry in worship as a church family. Many thanks are given to the members of the Choral Director Search Committee - Jean Fletcher (Chair), Emily Hutchins, Gloria Stanford, and Rob Wicker - for their faithful service during this three month process.

As the beloved hymn says:

Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness!

Morning by morning, new mercies I see.

All I have needed thy hand hath provided.

Great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!”

We all can certainly see how great and faithful our God is, and I for one am excited to see what God continues to do through the ministry of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church as we seek to make a joyful noise together, not just in worship on Sunday morning, but also through our service each day of the week. Great is God’s faithfulness indeed!

Gratefully,

- David

Montreat Youth Conference

Members of CHPC's Youth Group are having a wonderful time in Montreat, North Carolina this week as they gather with almost 800 other youth to worship, pray, learn, and grow in their faith. We pray God continues to move throughout their time during this youth conference as our youth practice planting peace with Christ in their own lives. May they have good weather, receptive hearts, open minds, safe travels home, and even more opportunities to make creative pictures of Mrs. Gretchen.

Make Holston Camp Part of Your Summer Plans!

Since 1955, Holston Camp and Retreat Center has offered youth from our area and abroad the opportunity to seek God while building nurturing relationships and having fun outdoors. It’s a time to make new friends, learn new activities and skills, and simply enjoy God’s creation. CHPC is proud to partner in ministry with Holston Camp. Pastor David will be serving as Camp Pastor next week, and it's not too late for anyone to sign up to go with him! Mission Ministry Highlight: The Blessing Box

Through the Blessing Box, there is a constant and ongoing ministry that our church provides to people in need within our community. CHPC is proud of the fact that people who are in need of food will always be able to find their next meal on our church property.

Since this is a continuous ministry, the Mission Committee would like to remind the church once again that our stock of supplies continuously needs to be replenished. At this time, one of the bigger needs that we would like to make a special request for are canned meats and hearty soups. Donations are always accepted in the Narthex in the marked baskets. Also, if you would like a copy of the complete list of items that we stock in the blessing box, see the wicker collection basket in the Narthex. Thank you for your donations to this vital ministry!
