Ukirk ETSU Update from Director John Golden
Thank you so much for welcoming me to the pulpit this past Sunday to share about the UKirk ETSU campus ministry and to proclaim the gospel! I am so grateful for the opportunity to be with y’all, and I am so grateful for your support of the students at ETSU. I wanted to take this opportunity to share more with you about the lives of our students, so here is a highlight of two of them, pictured here. I hope that sharing their stories shows you how God is at work here at Ukirk.

ETSU just concluded their spring semester, over 2,000 students received diplomas from the university on May 6. One of these students is Yanik, who has been a part of UKirk ETSU since I first arrived in the Fall 2020 semester. Yanik grew up in Bulgaria, where his parents were Free Will Baptist missionaries. Yanik moved back to the United States to obtain his college education, and transferred to ETSU in Spring of 2020. Yanik was one of the few students on campus during my first year of campus ministry, and faithfully attended every small group and every worship gathering that year. During the next two school years, he would serve as one of the student officers, and was invaluable in planning events and directing outreach to other students at ETSU. During his time at UKirk ETSU, average attendance at our worship increased from 2 students to 12. This Spring, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology, and plans to return to ETSU in the fall to work towards obtaining a Master of Public Health with an Epidemiology concentration.

While one student leader has graduated, other students are beginning to step up and assume leadership roles at the campus ministry. One such student, Mark, began attending UKirk ETSU in the spring semester. Mark grew up Irish Catholic, but moved away from his Christian faith after his father died when Mark was twelve. However, through word of mouth from another first-year student, Mark found a place to belong within the UKirk ETSU community. When we received a donation of new bibles for the campus ministry, Mark grabbed one, took it home, and began voraciously reading through it in his own time. He has experienced a renewal of his faith; this past Easter, he even attended church for the first time since his father passed. While aspects of church still feel uncomfortable for him, Mark’s spiritual growth over this semester has been amazing to watch. Mark will be serving as a student officer of UKirk ETSU, beginning this fall.

We look forward to the fall semester and wanted to share with you an opportunity to partner with us soon. If you would be interested in bringing a meal and joining UKirk ETSU for worship during the fall semester, we would welcome your presence! Please click on this link, and fill out some information on the google spreadsheet. And if there are other ways that you would like to be a part of the ministry that is alive at ETSU, please feel to email me with your ideas at john@presbyhouse.org. Thanks and God bless!
Habitat Faith Build Updates
As you know, CHPC is participating in the 2023 Habitat Faith Build to help build Marquetta and her family a new home.  Due to some site preparation challenges, the schedule had to be adjusted and work delayed.  As a result, CHPC has been asked to move our build week to June 7-10.  Apologies for this delay, but we hope that you will still make helping out with Habitat a priority!

On the bright side, we have good news: we have reached our financial goal of $5,565 for this Habitat build!  Thanks to everyone who helped to contribute in this way. But we still need help! A new signup sheet for our new build week has been placed in the Narthex. Please consider signing up to help serve in this vital ministry. We need 8 volunteers each day. If you plan to sign up, please also complete a release and waiver and return it to Mary’s box.

In the meantime, know that work is still moving forward. Please enjoy some updated pictures reflecting the good work that has already been accomplished for this family in need! And thanks for your support!

It has been a gift to worship alongside you as a member of the congregation these past few weeks and I’m excited to step back into the pulpit as we continue this journey through this season of Easter. This week, we adventure with the Apostle Paul to the city of Athens to learn how the Spirit moved across the Mediterranean in new ways. May God’s Spirit meet us wherever we are, just as God’s Spirit met the Athenians at the Areopagus all those years ago.

Gratefully,
David
Celebrating Milestones

Congratulations to Lindsey Brooke Mullins for graduating from ETSU this Spring! She received her B.S. in Psychology.

We also celebrate the union of Aaron Austin and Katy Edwards. Katy is the daughter of Ben and Sandra Edwards, granddaughter of Kay Edwards and Pete Renfro.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace Bed Build
Be a part of our next Bed Building Event! Work starts at 8:30am on Saturday Morning, May 20. There is a Sign-up Sheet in the Narthex. The goal is to build 25 beds and we need about 25 people, so please consider joining us.

The need couldn't be greater: these beds will be delivered to children in our community that don’t have a proper place to lay their heads at night. This is a growing missional opportunity of our church, as this will be the 3rd time partnering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

We will use Sunday, May 21 (after Church) as a Rain Date for this event. But, pray for good weather on the 20th! Take Care and Thank You for showing God's Love through this ministry!
